Here It Is

Thanks McPaul, I hope we can get Morris but I think he will get a chance to be HC somewhere. I have said all along that if the big names turned us down, Strong would be great. TexasStrong

I think these are fair questions:

When did Saban turn us down? When was the last offer made to him?

Did we go after fisher at all?

Why did hornsports report "unofficially" that Saban was the next coach around Christmas?

Ed Orgeron is about as far away from a star defensive coordinator as you can get. Recruiter, sure. DC, hell no. If you are hiring a coach at a place like Texas because he can put together a star-studded staff, you're incompetent. That staff is getting gutted the second you have a good season. Which is the overall point. You need a guy that can FIND the stars. Not PURSUE them.
Strong will be the effective DC in that situation.

He has the bona fides on defense.

Hearing the same thing. Not what I expected obviously. I'm going to have to warm up to this hire but hopefully we get the OC and DC that makes it work.

I apologize to those who are angry with me. I've passed along what I know. My guys didn't think we'd get a "no thanks" from Saban.

Doesn't Morris have a steep buyout for a lateral move? Thought I read that somewhere.

Would be great to get him & help Strong develop relationships with HS coaches.

I wanted Jimbo myself, but a staff like this could be exciting.

Wow I am disappointed for sure. Not sure if it was worth pushing Mack out now.

Not sure you wanted the cancer removed because it may take some time to recover?

Really, Mack, what a miserable job he has done the past 4 yrs.

Let's give our new HC the support he needs to be a success for our program.

I agree with others that no way Orgeron can be considered a great DC hire.

How can 3 people like this post. Mack had to go no matter what.

Not my first choice but UT needed change and it is here.

Chad Morris as OC makes me happy. I want Ed O on the staff but he's never been a DC in his career...though maybe with Strong around it's not as big an issue. Any idea who else we're looking for?
Chad Morris is going to end up as head coach of one of the vacancies this hire creates. He's not going to be the OC here.

I'm shocked that Patterson made this choice. Certainly didn't warrant all this drama. If this is all he was going to do should have just kept Mack. He'll Central Florida beat him. I'm out....

Ok, I can understand the disappointment piece, but keep Mack Brown?

With the $ we saved between his salary and Saban's offer we better hire a staff for tha ages!!!
Can Ed O defend the spread?
Ed O can be DL guy and recruiter only. No DC.

Thats my biggest ? about the DC, he must be able to defend the spread.

I was in the "hoping for John Harbaugh" camp but if those things weren't meant to work out, so be it. Maybe John Harbaugh decided to hold out for Michigan. I'm not surprised on Saban, and although it would have definitely been the big name splash and the f-you-we're-Texas-and-we-can-get-anyone move, I don't know that that is what the program actually needs. I think, much as I did with Mack Brown, I will take a wait and see approach with relative optimism that it should work out. I think the obsession by some folks to have to have a "name" is really faulty thinking as to what the program needs to win, and any anger that we didn't land a superstar name coach is just silly.

Don't know that I like the Ed O. As a DC. Unproven there. Great recruiter and really good DL coach though.
Exactly. would love him on the staff as DL coach.

You did a great job man. That's what I was trying to say earlier, everybody assumed Saban says yes. It's harder when you have to sign than when you are talking about it. I sell for a living, I know! :) But no apologies are needed, you reported what the story was and were honest
