Headed down to Corpus tomorrow through Tuesday. My son is transferring from UT-Tyler down to a&m Corpus Christie (the law has been laid down that none of our vehicles will show any kind of tamu sticker in anyway, shape of form). He wants to major in Marine Biology of some shit like that.

Who knows the good places to eat, see etc?. Gotta find him a place to live as well. What part of town should we look and what part should we avoid?

I grew up in Corpus. The universiity is on the far end of Ocean Drive by the water. I am sure there are student apartments that have been built up down there close to campus, but I can't give specific recs. A little further away would be places off of SPID (South Padre Island Drive).

For food, throw a rock and hit a great Mexican place. I'm partial to Kiko's but there are a billion tacquerias that are cheap and awesome. Especially for breakfast. La Playa seafood enchiladas. Town & Country or Andy's for a traditional down home breakfast. If you have extra time head out to Port A and eat out there. Shell's, another La Playa, and some higher end seafood joints right in the middle of Port A. Snoopy's under the JFK Causeway if you just want some fried fish/shrimp and to get some sun and see seagulls.

I like Blackbeard's just hop from under the bridge. Decent food but they have a solo guitar player that sets-up and does a decent job. Cold beer too. If you venture into downtown Corpus Executive Surf Club is a cool place to eat and drink/listen to live music.

Best of luck to your son - have a good trip!

Had lunch at Brewster's Icehouse yesterday. Very good. I had a great Chicken Fried Steak (actually seemed fresh, not frozen like most of the ones you get now). Wife and son had burgers and said they were really good too. Cool place with lots of patio space and an opening for all the live bands they have.

Had Snoopies in Padre Sunday. Pretty good food there as well and an awesome view. Found my son an apartment yesterday, finally. Problem is his classes start 9/4 and he can't move in until 9/7. Gonna be interesting to say the least. A couple of places we went to said that there were somewhere between 400-700 incoming students with no places too live. The one we found is about $200.00 more than I wanted too pay but at least he has a place.
