Happy Birthday Johnny Lam Jones!

I am in that crowd somewhere.

I remember the blonde cheerleader who used to do an amazing series of backflips for those years.

I think her name was Pam Burkhalter(?).

She did extra ones for Johnny, who I believe she later married?

edit - couldnt find vid of her doing backflips, but here she is

I remember Lam, Ham, and Jam Jones.  Back then, It was hard to keep up with the Jones!  ;)

For you young whippersnappers, "Lam" Jones was, of course, Johnny Jones from Lampasas, who won a gold medal in the 1976 Olympics in the 4 x 100 meter relay in the summer after his senior year in high school.  From his wiki page,  "Perhaps even more than his Olympic gold, however, Jones is considered legendary in Texas high school sports history for his performance in the mile relay at the 1976 U.I.L. State Track and Field Meet. Running anchor for Class 3A Lampasas High School, Jones took the baton in last place, reportedly 40 to 60 yards behind the leaders, and passed the entire field for victory. The run has taken on near-mythical status among those who saw it — or claim to have seen it."   "Ham" Jones, was Johnny Jones, out of Hamlin, Texas.  He was primarily a blocking back for Earl Campbell but he was a pretty good running back in his own right.   "Jam" was A J Jones out of Ohio. He was a High School All American and is seventh on Texas' rushing list behind Roosevelt Leaks and ahead of Eric Metcalf.  Lam and Ham came in in the same year, and Jam came in a couple of years later.  They played together for one year.  Ham and Jam were running backs while Lam was a wide receiver.
