The Texas Longhorns were playing for a chance at a 2 seed in the Big 12 tournament. All they had to do was win on the road and hope that TCU would pull off the upset at home against OU. Neither of those two things happened and the Texas Longhorns were upset by the Texas Tech Red Raiders 59-53 in Lubbock, Texas. The Longhorns ended the at 22-9 (11-7 Big 12).

Turning point of the game

With 6:40 left in the game, Texas had a 4 point lead but Texas Tech went on the 18-8 run to end the game. The biggest event was with less than 2 minutes to go in the game, Jaye Crockett and Jordan Tolbert both hit 3 point shots to put the Red Raiders up by 7. Jaye Crockett being in potentially his next to last game in organized basketball for the rest in his life hits that shot and you could see how much that meant to him.

Player of the Game

Martez Walker

Him and Cameron Ridley were the only two players that I felt played a great game. Martez Walker was hot from 3 point range knocking down 3 of his 7 attempts. Isaiah Taylor once again struggled from the field on the road shooting 10% from the field. If teams shut down the driving lane, Taylor struggles. He needs to find a jump shot badly.

Epilogue

The Longhorns ended the season on a dud. You knew when they were on their winning streak in January and early February that they would come down to earth but it was still disappointing. 2-4 in their last 6 games isn't going to impress the committee. However a 22 wins before the season for Texas seemed to be impossible so there is some excitement going into the Big 12 tournament this year. West Virginia is the first opponent that the Longhorns will face at 8:30pm on the Big 12 Network next Thursday. Should be a good game but the Mountaineers will be looking to make their case for the NCAA tournament and they just beat Kansas so they will be focused and ready in Kansas City. Win or Go Home.

Playing like they did against Tech will get 'em whipped in the 1st Rd of both the Big 12 and NCAA tourneys

I believe we can put it all together for the Big 12 Championship.
It's called March Madness for a reason. Anything can happen but I do believe teams have adjusted to what Texas does best which is the paint. They shut down the driving lanes for Felix and Taylor. If the Longhorns can't make jump shots, they won't win much.

I hope Rick understands he could still lose his job with a dud to end the year.

Hope this isn't beginning of the end for 2013-14 basketball team. Don't much like our chances against a fired up WVA in rd 1 of B 12. I'm with Whisenant sentiments. Barnes future on the 40 will depend on if the Horns are still playing in three weeks.

I think Barnes will be back next year based on the regular season performance. Justified? Not sure. I'm like you guys in that I'd like to see a few wins in both tournaments. Texas surpassed expectations in the regular season. With Kabongo leaving and the rash of transfers I would say 22 wins was an impressive over achievement.

Hard to win late in the season and in tournament play without good guard play. We don't have that. We desperately need another good scorer or two. And to play with more intensity.

West Virginia just totally dismantled Kansas.....like we did at home. If they play with similar intensity, they will beat us. Watch out for one and done in both tournaments.

Joel Embiid headed to California today to see back specialist tomorrow. Can't be great news even if precautionary. Per Fraschilla.

He's likely to miss the Big 12 tournament. If he isn't healthy, KU will be gone from the tourney rather quickly.

I agree with guard play but we need a guard or two who can not only drive to the rim but create and make shots. Now it's rare to find that talent right out of high school so you have to develop that skill. Javan Felix should be more consistent but he isn't right now and it's tough to expect the freshmen to have it figured out. If the players can develop and Texas gets Myles Turner, it could be a very good year next year.
