what a change he has made on this team. The defense is playing completely different than it was under Diaz. They are more confident and just seem to be in the right position. It's amazing what good coaching does for a team.

Absolutely agree. I was just having this convo with my wife. I'm not sure that if Robinson had been the DC from the start of the season that they aren't undefeated.

Be lucky that your wife is still awake. Mine is passed out beside me on the couch.

I don't know if we are undefeated, but I definitely don't think we get blown out by BYU and don't struggle against Ole Miss like we did. Just another reason why Mack has to go.

Mack a chance to make this move in Jan and he whiffed again!!!

Robinson deserves all the credit for this turnaround and should be rewarded as such.

he made it simple, they just react now w/o thinking. Diaz was trying to be too cute, players had to do alot of thinking. I like the way the D swarms to the ball and gang tackle just like a few years ago.

I wonder what happens to Coach Robinson if/and when there's a HC change next season.
Have been wondering the same. I think all of us are amazed at what GR has done in this short time. He did a great job here with the 2004 team and was glad to see him get a shot as a head coach. He had no chance at Syracuse.

If I was Mack there is no way I would let him go. Hopefully the new HC will keep him

The whole Diaz situation and dismissal perplexes me.

While I'm happy with the turnaround under Robinson, I can't quite understand how Diaz's salty 2011 defense turned to crapola the past year. Was it really too complex? It's a mystery.

I hate to think that Mississippi State athletes, the aggie of MS, are smarter than UT's...

I work with a guy that went to school with a defensive back at UT. They still keep in touch. He said the defense was way too complex and the players had to think too much. They never had a real grasp of their responsibilities.

That was the SEC. You did not have to think to much to stop a power running scheme. i.e smash mouth. In the B12, you face multiple formations that can fool the hell out of you.

People paid no attention to the fact his defenses at Middle Tennessee State (which faced spreads) were not that great either.

2006 - 25.16 ppg allowed to 12 FBS teams 325.6 yards per game allowed - 121.6 yards rushing per game allowed

2007 - 28.25 ppg allowed to 12 FBS teams 415.2 yards per game allowed - 199.8 yards rushing per game allowed

2008 - 24.91 ppg allowed to 12 FBS teams 366.3 yards per game allowed - 153.5 yards rushing per game allowed

2009 - 23.69 ppg allowed to 13 FBS teams 354.8 yards per game allowed - 136.8 yards rushing per game allowed

Good point.

I forget just how unimaginative and predictable most SEC offenses are. Top 2 in the Redneck League? None other than aggie and Mizzery.

That's the most perplexing thing about Diaz...how do you coach a defense into forgetting how to tackle???
By making things so difficult to begin with they spend all their time on complex schemes and forget basic fundamentals.

I can give an engineer and a laborer the task of knocking down a brick wall. By the time the engineer has come up with his complex plan to bring down the wall the laborer has already just picked up a sledgehammer and knocked the thing down. Keep it simple....
