Dear Texas Ex:
Today the University of Texas System Board of Regents named Greg Fenves, currently UT's provost, as the sole finalist to succeed Bill Powers as president. We wanted to share this momentous news with you and express our belief that with President Fenves at the helm, the University of Texas at Austin will continue its upward path toward becoming the nation's premier public teaching and research university.
We congratulate the Board of Regents and Chancellor McRaven on selecting Fenves after a thorough nationwide search. He is an internationally recognized structural engineer and a member of the National Academy of Engineering. During Fenves' tenure at UT, he has led with distinction as dean of the Cockrell School of Engineering and as provost. He knows intimately the university's strengths and challenges. That makes him uniquely placed to continue the work of fulfilling the state of Texas' constitutional mandate for UT-Austin: to be a university of the first class. In the words of Chancellor McRaven, he is a magnificent choice.
By law, the regents must now wait 21 days before finalizing Fenves as the next president. In the meantime, the UT System will be coordinating ways for stakeholders to provide input.
We have provided a few links where you can learn more:
