was posted on IT, but I think he is a member here too? All good points

Folks, it's important, when analyzing what took place at the banquet last night, to read carefully the talking points that Powers, Patterson and even Mack used when talking about the future. None of them said anything that would indicate Mack will be our head football coach next year.
Mack said "my situation has not changed", which is true.

Powers said he looks "forward to working with Mack" (not coach Brown) in the future. Patterson said even less than that.

Nowhere did anyone state that Mack Brown would be our head football coach past the Alamo Bowl.

I do communications consulting for a living, and am really very good at what I do. It's very important to read and listen to the exact words that were used, and those were the words I saw.

So Mack's situation has not changed. True. Powers looks forward to working with Mack - in some capacity - in the future. Which by all accounts here at IT, is true. Patterson looks forward to "meeting" with "Mack" in the near future. Again, true.

None of it says a word about who our head coach will be in 2014.

Keep calm and chive on, folks.

It will be a mistake for the university to keep Mack involved in any capacity. He had done damage beyond repair IMO. I will never view him as I did before all this took place. He can say it's all about the kids, etc. but in reality it is all about Mack. FUMB

Yes Sir. Mack needs to be payed his $2.5 Mil buyout and totally removed forever from the University. Powers needs to be removed so that any workings he does with Mack Brown is on his own dime and time. F Mack and Powers. Bring on Miss Rice.

even if mack steps aside by waiting till after the bowl will screw the coach on recruiting, assistants etc. mack is running around offering scholarships to his type of kids and the new coach may not want them. also what good head coach is going to come hear with powers working with mack in the back ground. everything is not ok to be calm about. mack needs to hit the road

Jdsu is absolutely right. We are now 7 days behind schedule and completely blowing the opportunity for a major turnaround. Sickening.

Per Holly roe of ESPN, who was at the banquet, here is Mack's reply to her after the banquet about his future:

"ESPN has had the story wrong," Brown said. "Everybody just needs to slow down. I have a good relationship with my bosses, Bill Powers and Steve Patterson, and I look forward to making the best decision (about my future)."

Curious what EyesofTx would say about this.

For Christ's sake stop taking these ESPN leaks at face value.

That statement, if you take the time to think about it, supports everything stated in the OP

I hope he is right but it can't hurt to freak out and raise HELL in case they have any thought about him staying.

Mack will.....he will have a position as GM/assistant to President and will tell the new coach how to coach. One of the reasons Saban signed his new contract.
