Alderman – The matchups highly favor Texas as they outmatch UNT in each aspect of the game, save for special teams. Look for Texas to line up and run right at UNT’s front 7 for a majority of the game. Ash will have some success with play-action and screens, but most of the offense will come on the ground with a steady diet of Gray and Brown.
The only possibility of the Mean Green staying within three TDs is poor special teams and a fast running clock. Texas should play a clean game and eventually pull into the upper 30s to lower 40s by the end of the 4th quarter. Texas 38 – North Texas 10
Carrara – Malcolm Brown and Johnathan Gray have big nights with both coming close, if not eclipsing, the 100 yard mark. Ash gets to sling it around and the Texas defense forces a turnover or two and Texas wins big.
Texas - 42, North Texas - 17
Cotcher – The moment coaches, players and fans have waited for is finally here. It won’t be without a few bumps in the road, but Texas will control from start to finish. On Sunday, we’ll debate whether Malcom Brown or Cedric Reed deserves MVP honors. Texas 31 – North Texas 9
Feeley - The North Texas game will be surprising. North Texas is walking tall and ready for the game however, the lack of experience at the QB position, and loss of kick return specialist Brelan Chancellor, will make quick scores difficult to achieve.
Depth is where the Longhorns will win this game. I wouldn't imagine this to be a "Tune-Up" game like usual though, The Mean Green have a stout run game and solid defensive secondary. The simple fact is that neither team is suited to score over 35 points. Both teams will try to control the clock, play solid defense, and win by executing a successful running game.
Texas however... is Texas. They are a solid team that has consistently top notch players but, UT will not hit its stride this early in the season which is why the game could be more interesting than previously thought. Texas 28 – North Texas 17
Flanagan – After a long offseason, football is upon us. North Texas is a solid opponent and can beat Texas if the Horns aren't focused. I believe that Texas will be ready to show the college football world that they are back. Texas 42- North Texas 17
Hinton – I think that the Texas offense shows some life compared to the last couple of seasons, but most of the yardage will come on the ground and the game won't be as high-scoring as Texas fans are used to in earlier games--but it won't be because of an inability to score, rather ball control. Malcolm Brown should have a huge game. I expect to see a tough, swarming defense upfront. The secondary may struggle since it's early on, but overall it will be a solid, albeit conservative, effort from the Horns. Texa 34 – North Texas 13
Hopkins - The game will go well for the Horns overall. Seeing as we're a better recruited and stronger team, Coach Strong will start the year off on a good foot. Texas 42 – North Texas 7
McPhaul – The Texas running game faces 9 men in the box for the majority of the game. Texas 31 – North Texas 13
Roach - Texas is easily the more talented team in this matchup and will look to make a statement in their first game. The defense will play well and force a few turnovers while the offense might sputter trying to find its legs. It might be close going into the half, but eventually Texas will pull away. Texas 45 – North Texas 10
