***GAME THREAD - Texas & Michigan***

Texas made that run going big with Ridley/Holmes/Lammert. I think we will see that a lot next year. I think you will see a lot of minutes with either a Ridley/Holmes/Lammert or Ridley/Holmes/Turner combo. Three bigs with Walker and Taylor is pretty deadly IMO.

Charles Barkley, "You can't play zone against a team like Michigan". Yep.

All three broadcasters said this team will be dangerous next year though.

Holland is a player that has a role. He at least can play shutdown defense. If Felix isn't hitting jumpers he brings nothing to the team. Barnett is very good though, going to be stealing a lot of minutes next year.
Good defender but doesn't give much on O in the half-court.

Of the 2, I don't have as much of a problem with Holland because he at least can defend.

Texas Longhorns ... keep your heads up! You played with grit and determination. It is hard to beat 14 of 28 three point shots made. You have served notice for next season. I am really impressed with how this team played this season, and I think Coach Barnes is very much deserving of his Big Twelve Coach of the Year award. If our current players make half of the improvement for next year as they did this year from last, we are in for quite a show next year. Myles Turner! Come on down, bring your lunch pail, and get ready to go to work! Jordan Barnett! Work on your jump shot like your life depends on it. You both have the opportunity to be a part of something very special next year. Hook'em Horns!!!

I agree. I like Walker over Holland and Felix. Won't be surprised by the end of next year if you see a lot of Barnett and Walker on the wings though. Texas needs playmakers on the wing and a little more size to guard teams like Michigan.

Ridley leaving would mean he ignored the coaches and NBA evaluations and took some bad advice from people close to home. He is nowhere close to NBA ready. Nobody should be looking at the NBA. Holmes is the only guy that should even submit his name for evaluation and only because he's a JR.
This team desperately needs Walker, Yancy and Croaker(hope he stays but doubt it) to take big steps forward and become a major part of the rotation. Can't be truly elite with 2 1-way players(Holland-D, Felix-O) as major parts of the rotation. If those 3 develop and we somehow land Turner I don't see a place for either guy:

Starters: Taylor, Walker, Holmes, Turner, Ridley.

Bench: Yancy, Croaker, Barnett, Lammert, Ibeh, don't see where Holland or Felix would fit.
The difference today was Michigan has been there, and our kids have not. Thought Taylor came of age today. Great game for the freshman.

Texas was a much better team with Felix on the bench.

Ridley should learn from this that he needs another year or two to develop his body. He needs to get quicker and stronger. Has a great future if he does.

If we can get Myles and a good outside shooter( or two) we can be a great team next year.

Thought Barnes made a great defensive adjustment early in the 2nd by going more to a 1-3-1 zone. Playing man was wearing our big guys out.

Great season given the expectations.

The thing with Ridley is that the NBA is almost all stretch bigs now. You have to be athletic enough to cover bigs on the perimeter. Ridley just isn't there yet in terms of quickness on the perimeter defensively. If Ridley was a dominating scorer, NBA teams would think about drafting him (but he's still too inconsistent offensively). Like you said his future is bright, but he needs another year of development. I don't think Ridley is going pro, but somebody really needs to sit him and down and make sure he isn't even thinking about. Would be a major mistake as I don't think he would be drafted.

We will have a lot options to go big or play small ball next year. Holmes and Lammert can play inside out. From what I have read and seen on video, if Turner comes to Texas, he looks like he can play inside out or the five. My jaw dropped when I heard about Barnett's numbers in his state playoff game - forty three points and twenty rebounds! Sheeesh! Looks like we are going to have to find some minutes for him! ;) Taylor has really established himself, and has now started shooting jump shots in addition to his nifty floater. Walker seems to have positioned himself to take some minutes from Holland and Felix, and seems to have the best three pointer of anybody on the team. Although he does not have a great offensive game Holland is a good defensive stopper and finds ways to get points at times. Felix is a smart player, but his shot can be infuriating at times, and as others have noted, he does seem to change the timing in the half court offensively at times. Our potential big combinations for next year seem to be multiple and probably pretty hard for most college teams to match up with. Seems like next year will be the deepest Texas team that I have ever seen, and I have been going to games since Leon Black's days as coach. Next year is gonna be fun to anticipate and watch.

Definitely agree experience played a factor, especially early on. Got caught up playing their style and taking quick shots rather than pounding them inside. A more experienced team runs their stuff.

Felix is just not a high level player. Completely overmatched defensively and lacks awareness on that end. Offensively he's a SG in a PG's body. He's a chucker and extremely streaky. Texas needs other guys to develop and take his minutes.

Ridley has a lot of development if he wants to be a NBA player. He's got work to do physically and with his skill-set. He's not a freak athlete so he'll need to have a few moves and counter moves, and maybe even the ability to hit the 15 footer to be a NBA player. Needs to be much stronger with the ball in the post as well.

I don't think we'll be able to add a shooter. Will need guys to improve in that area. These guys appear to live in the gym so I think we'll see improvement in that area.

@mikefinger: Asked Holmes if there's room for another big man in UT's frontcourt. He said, "He'll fit in."

He talking about Turner or Barnett?

Turner. Barnett really isn't a big. He's an oversized wing.
