GAME THREAD: Kansas State Wildcats at Texas Longhorns

My thoughts . . .

1. I picked against Texas this week. There ya go. lol

2. Defensively, the unit played well, especially in the 2nd half where KSU didn't score a point and the D put up two 4th and 1 stands.

3. Credit to Sark for coming up with a game plan that accommodated his weaknesses this week. Thompson's hand isn't healed so he limited his throws to short to intermediate. Used the running game a lot, mixing in Wildcat with RoJo. We saw lots of K-Rob, lots of RoJo, and threw when we needed to.

4. Passing game had one or two drops that I noticed. The catching was much better this week. We used the TE a lot this game (credit Sark) and Brewer stepped up. The catch in the end zone was awesome.

5. We had a Vernon Broughton sighting today. I heard he broughton it on a play or two.

6. Rushing defense took some blows again this week, mostly in the first half. Duece Vaughn is a very good back. He's tough to see much less tackle.

7. It was nice to see this team play stronger as the game got into the 4th. Finally.

8. Thompson did what he was asked to do for the most part today. If he had gone down with injury, we would have run wildcat the rest of the way. I"m not sure RoJo knows passing plays.

9. I noticed Jaylan Ford a lot today. Always around the ball. I think he'll start next year.

10. KSU didn't really try to exploit our safeties in this game. This surprised me. Our safeties were able to focus on the run as KSU only had like 44 yards passing.

If we get offered some default Bowl invite, I hope we turn it down. We need to get started on rebuild right away.

Won’t a de facto bowl game mean more practices? Play the young guys and help prepare for next year

#3 & #8 are so spot on yet some want to pile on Casey whenever he makes a mistake. Playing hurt, giving it his all cause he knew he had no backup, going 17-23 with 1 INT/1TD isn't good enough.

Did anyone watch the post-game show? Apparently Sark said he questioned some players desire after the long run for touchdown by the KSU lightning-fast white QB and made changes.
He doesn't seem to shy away from calling things out. Hopefully he uses the same brutal honesty when evaluating the staff.

I don't disagree. But I can't help but wonder why it took until half way through the 12th game of the year?
Herman never seemed willing to contribute to the defensive side of the ball and Charlie never seemed able to contribute to the offensive side. Maybe Sark is figuring out that as the Head coach, he has to stay involved in the entire game flow? If so, it is a big realization. Even if it took almost his entire first season.

As a head coach, ultimately all aspects of the team are your responsibility. These guys shouldn't need a job description read to them.
