*****Game Thread: Baylor Bears @ Texas Longhorns*****

I guess for me it boils down to why I log onto “Hornsports.”  “Ewers sucks” or words to that effect - is actually an opinion about Texas football, the game , or “Horns sports.”   I don't log on to get one posters take on whether or not another poster is overly-negative in how he consumes a game.  The first is Texas sports related, the later is not.

If you don’t think “Ewers sucks,” I’m actually interested in why you have formulated that opinion.  I’m highly interested in the most important position and the team I love.   No personal offense intended - but I couldn’t care less about your opinion regarding my or someone else’s countenance during games.

And no, I don’t care to block you.  I enjoy your SPORTS takes.
It wasn't just one person's posts, it was multiple people. I personally believe some went way overboard way too early and that's more of my point than just saying negative things. Believe me, you should have heard some of the things I said watching the game. I wouldn't repeat it in front of people, but that's in the privacy of my home.

No, I don't think Ewers sucks. Has he had some bad games? Yes, but he's also had some good ones. Sark sees the team everyday so I'm going to have to take his word on who plays and why. I've learned a long time ago that my opinion on players doesn't count. I have yet had one coach or AD call me to ask my opinion on who should start or play what position.

I've only blocked one person and we all know who that is. He went too far in my opinion and he states the same thing almost every time.

Yes, at times it was bad play. But you go on and on about this despite the good day he just had FRIDAY.

So you have no recent sample to complain about. Yes, he fumbled while running for his life. Bijan fumbled in OT and we lost. Should we ride that on him like you're doing Ewers?

He's a freshman. He made some freshman mistakes. I think he'll be fine living with his mistakes and hopefully one day you'll join him in that regard.
Boy can you ever get off subject I can not figure how aRS freshman post led to this reply Do not belive I have ever rode on Ewers. Keep track of my post do not confuse mine with some one else.

For all Kade drinkers or who ever. Next year Ewers will win Heisman. Would have won this year but missed eight grade. His celing is high as empire state boilding???

If Ewers can further develop by looking at his 2nd and 3rd options along with the oline much improving on pass protection, then Ewers should have an amazing season next year.  Both of these were missing for the offense and for us to take the next step have to happen.  I’m a believer that they will but I have no idea if they will happen.

If they do, we win 10-11 games next year and playoffs here we come.  Good luck stopping this O.

Murphy can help and is physically gifted but we need a QB that can go through the reads. We know Card can’t after 3 years.  Majority of young QBs struggle with that anyways so who can step up?

You to . I am not harping about Ewers be ing a RS. I made a statement Ewers is  R S freshman. You would think I dehorned Bevo!

Posters told me he is young no experince etc. Things I already know.

Seems like they are coming up with reasons for his bad play.

He made all the decisions he has to live with them
Okay, I'm going to say it again.

You might have overreacted just a wee bit. No one acted like you had dehorned Bevo.

And all of us, including myself and you, have a tendency to post stuff that a lot of us already know. That's been going on for as long as this board has been in existence.

With regards to posters coming up with reasons for Ewers bad play, that might also have something to do with how you read what other posters are saying.

I’m with you!  Well said!!

For my “most pleased” category, I can’t decide between these two:

Coach Flood - What he is doing with the offensive line (recruiting and development) makes me giddy!   I think OL has been a consistent weakness at Texas… quite honestly, since John Macovick (spelling) left - with a few exceptions.

Coach K and the defense - I was thrilled with Coach Flood from the day he was hired.  I mourned the unceremonious letting go of Coach Ash for over a year.  Well, now I wouldn’t trade Coach Ash for Coach K.  I love the way this defense gets to the passer, flies to the ball and brings  a wallop when it gets there.

Bet your bottom dollar that tomorrow, they’ll be sun…
I was right there with you on the Ash front. I used his techniques with my DBs and many of his principles as a DC so I was really hoping he would have been retained. I am intrigued by the way the defense continued to progress under coach K. but will withhold some enthusiasm when I see continued growth going forward. We have seen DCs have one good to great season only to suddenly suck again the following year. That said, I do believe that coach K, coach Choate, and coach Bo have things headed in the right direction.?

As for coach Flood and coach Bo, I'm a big fan of their push to recruit large humans. the OL and DL will set Texas up for very good things if they continue to develop.

I'll play, adding one…

Jaylan Ford – This is the picture of development at the collegiate level. He has gone from zero to hero. I have heard that Ford's success has opened the eyes of Ant Hill. This kind of development came at a position we were very weak at, or so we thought, during the pre-season.

On a side note, shout out to NTG for suggesting avoiding the game thread during the game. Second week in a row to take his advice and it was the second week in a row with a win and an enjoyable game watching experience. Even with throwing my remote at the tv when Ewers sucked on the safety, Karic sucked on the lookout block, the offense sucked on the last drive before halftime, and the entire defense and defensive staff sucked on Baylor's drive before halftime. NEVER run a prevent defense in that situation!!!lol

ET, calm down. You bring Ewers up repeatedly. Its why I directed it toward you.

Maybe this will speak to you, since you're old as dirt and all (lol, like me).

McEachern was a redshirt freshman. That means he was in the Texas system for a year and four games prior to the RRS where he made his debut. Everyone was suprised, pleasantly so, by his good play BECAUSE he was a redshirt freshman.

He had the benefit of having time to learn the Texas offense before he ever had to step on the Cotton Bowl turf.

It's why a QB redshirts, if he is able to.

Why a QB red shirts As I said in previous post every freshman benifits regardless of position by red shirting.

Doubt the you bring Ewers up reapedly except the he is a R S..One poster took that to be a negative statement and to my sorrow now I responded.

Ewers is greastest thing since sliced bread?

I pray for your keyboard every single night.

I certainly wouldn’t say that Ewers sucks… hopefully it was obvious I was quoting you - and you were characterizing posts you don’t care for.

That said, I am not nearly as high on Ewers as most on this board.  As a matter of fact, I think he played 5 really good quarters all year (OU, plus 1 against BAMA).  Outside of that, his play hampered the offense. In other words, Sark cannot run his offense how he’d like to because of the play at QB.

Ewers should certainly have been replaced against OSU and TCU in an effort to get a W.  Why he wasn’t is unfathomable IMHO. And also in my opinion - minus five quarters, Card was a better option.  I get Sark wanting a QB who has the tools to better run his system… so I understand his proclivity to keep Ewers as starter.

I’ll conclude with a question - and allow you to answer without a rebuttal.  If Ewers last name was Wright… starting without the HS accolades (10.0 rating, etc…) and you were simply going by what you saw this year, would you feel the same?  Or might you join me in suggesting that maybe he should have been replaced?

I concede the point that Sark knows what he’s doing… certainly knows his players better than you or I… these are the ravings of a fan.  Nothing more or less.

One of my all time favorite Texas memories.  McEachern was the 3rd string QB entering the RRS he ended up winning. Glory days!!!!

I was at that game, McBath then Aune leave and in comes a 3rd teamer. He was a gamer for sure, wish that 77 team could have won that cotton bowl that year. It would have capped off that amazing story and sent Earl out with a W and a a National Championship.

I watched that game on my parents 15” black and white TV.  You were lucky to get 3 TV games a year back then.  Good memories!   That was a great team.

That same year was my first game to go to in person (Rice).  Erxleben kicked a 67 yard field goal that day.  Three of some 72 points if my memory serves.

Not Sir but here is my take fwiw. Ewers does things that admittedly cause me to fall in love with his potential. Unfortunately, OSU, TCU and the frequent deep misses left me screaming into my pillow in frustration. If it were my call, I would have pulled him those two games. Even his body language Friday left a lot to be desired for me. It seemed to me that earlier in the season he was just playing the game but as the season went on, he was overthinking things. Trying to be too perfect. That to me is where Sark needed to simplify things and put him in a better situation to succeed. Ultimately, I will root for whoever the starter is and hope they give Texas the best chance to succeed regardless of his last name.

I was at that game.  If my memory is correct, first string QB goes out with an injury.  Very next play, the 2nd string QB goes down.  QB3 enters the game….

The true bright spot this season is actually seeing player development.  This list is long.  Sorrell, Barron, Ford, Sweat and many more.  The offensive line is very young and should be much improved.  Things are looking very good
