*****Game Thread: Baylor Bears @ Texas Longhorns*****

Let it go. Just because we've shit the bed a few times before doesn't mean this is another clean up on isle 13.

Nobody on this board knows whether or not we're back. Sam was foolish for saying that after beating Georgia's back ups in the Sugar bowl.

Strong sucked as a recruiter and as a coach. We knew this because we saw this. He began recruiting a month before signing day. Herman was a legend in his own mind. These are mistakes that previous AD's have made.

Sark has done nothing to earn a comparison with Strong or Herman. I was not one who expected instant conference title. We were in a very bad way when Sark arrived. We were starting walk ons at some positions.

Sark recruited TWO #1 QBs in back to back years. Could Strong or Herman ever hope to do that? No, Herman had one tell him to go F himself despite that player having grown up wanting to be a Horn.

This is a situation with our program that hasn't played out. Rendering a verdict is way premature. There's no reason to be upset, no reason to celebrate. We're on a path and this requires the same patience you've shown for almost 20 years.

I do like the things that I see. I see recruiting done the right way, needs being addressed. I see a program that has overcome it's problems, such as collapsing in the 2nd half.

As long as we see that stuff, we have reason for hope. I understand you're position and don't begrudge you for it. But I hope you realize things are changing for the better.
Strong sucked at recruiting?  Is that hindsight or in the moment?  From I remember he pulled multiple top 10 classes which everyone was impressed with at the time, including yourself.

As for Herman failing on Ewers well part of that was Herman the manchild but also NIL money and certain laws in Texas which Ohio didnt have at the time.

I am with you regarding the OL recruiting which I have been saying for years.  I do think Sark is doing a good job as I have said countless times.  But FFS if people want to point aspects of team or players that dont fit the Sunshine guidelines they should be able to do so without being flamed.

All points should be made without being flamed don’t you think ?

Touché.  Now we have warped into the Chicken and egg argument.  Where this all started I dont even remember.  Just let it go.  I have better things to do.

You to . I am not harping about Ewers be ing a RS. I made a statement Ewers is  R S freshman. You would think I dehorned Bevo!

Posters told me he is young no experince etc. Things I already know.

Seems like they are coming up with reasons for his bad play.

He made all the decisions he has to live with them

IMO Manning is a better QB comming out of HS than Ewers was!

As for as red shirting all freshmen would benfit from it. Then that is not modern football

picture the scenario

1. Manning enrolls early  and matures Both physically and mentally in the spring enough to where he could compete for QB2 or even QB1....is Team Manning still going to be satisfied with RS their boy

2. # 2 QE doesnt mature or change some of the fundamentals (footwork) to Sark's liking and QB1 is actually up for grabs

3. # 3 HC actually sticks around because he is less than a year from getting his degree from UT and can always play as a graduate transfer in 2024 somewhere else unless of course QB1 goes down to injury or ineffectiveness

4.# 4 Wright and Murphy both  could stick around but I highly doubt both stay with the Golden Child on campus

the RB room is just as full, who is RB1A behind Brooks as RB1

Guys-  it’s simple.

Win 9+ games next year and make the big 12 championship game.   That would still mean progress for Texas.  We could and probably will be favored in the Big 12.

I won’t be satisfied with Sark until we win the Big 12 title and make the playoffs.  That should happen in the next 1-3 years.

Yes, Strong sucked at recruiting. If you will remember, Strong didn't recruit until the month before signing day. I was impressed that he got Malik. Thats it. I was impressed with a top 10 class that was started a month or so prior to NSD. Let's face it, we could all leave Austin and UT would still recruit a top 10 class just on brand alone.

1. The Mannings are fine with the redshirt. They have said as much. They like that it gives more time for him to develop under Sark.

2. I would expect some noise from Malik Murphy should Quin not get it done. Murph has a cannon of an arm and great size/mobility. Personally, I think he's the diamond in this rough. I'd like to see what he can do.

3. Entirely possible.

4. Wright might leave simply because I think MM moves past him in spring.

5. I think Brooks is your starter and Robinson is your 1A with Blue getting some reps each game, too. If Baxter ends up breaking ankles in practice, you might see him earlier than we thought.

This whole negative vs positive crap is silly.
Took the words out of my mouth… getting on to correct people - how they watch a game, positively vs negatively…. Good fan vs bad fan…. not only is it silly but it doesn’t make for real good reading on a football forum.

Yes, at times it was bad play. But you go on and on about this despite the good day he just had FRIDAY.

So you have no recent sample to complain about. Yes, he fumbled while running for his life. Bijan fumbled in OT and we lost. Should we ride that on him like you're doing Ewers?

He's a freshman. He made some freshman mistakes. I think he'll be fine living with his mistakes and hopefully one day you'll join him in that regard.

I've been on this bandwagon since… somewhere around the OSU game.  I truly hope Murphy gets a legitimate look in the offseason.

Murphy sure has a big arm and a impressive looking athlete. He would definitely bring problems to a defense with arm strength and athleticism. Dual threat QB’s give our defense a hard time for sure.

On this note, I was encouraged that Quinn actually pulled the ball and ran it in for a TD Friday. He doesn't have to be Lamar Jackson but a qb that is an option to run makes things a lot tougher on the defense. Can't remember if it was Sam's Soph or Jr year when he seem to stop pulling it on the read option. Might have been due to injury or the desire to make him a pocket passer but it severely limited the offense that season. Then again, it could have all been a nightmare since there have been so many over the past 12 years. ?

But Ewers sucks, Sark sucks, the team sucks, the coaches have their heads up their a$$, etc is good reading? All within the first half of the game when you're only trailing by 2? Guess I understand good reading differently.

I am pleased with 8-4. I am pleased with how we played Bama, how we clobbered OU 49-0, how we stopped some bad habits that were plaguing us as a program.

This group left us with a whole year to celebrate 49-0. I'll say that again – 49-0. Thats a shitload of points on our rival while stuffing them to nothing. Thats nothing short of "To crush your enemies. See them driven before you. And to hear the lamentations of their women" kind of good.

This pleases me immensely.

Next year, I expect a better record, such as 9-3 or 10-2 with 11-1 being pretty optimistic.

11-1 would hinge on Ewers developing further, having a reliable #1 WR, discovering some of the gems we have in the stable (such as Savion Red) and having Jaylon Ford and Anthony Hill on the field at the same time. A lot things going right for that to happen.

Ewers needs to spread the ball around more, using his 2nd and 3rd options. If you asked me right now who our #2 WR is, I couldn't tell you. I expect continued development from Sanders. We haven't seen his ceiling yet.

I guess for me it boils down to why I log onto “Hornsports.”  “Ewers sucks” or words to that effect - is actually an opinion about Texas football, the game , or “Horns sports.”   I don't log on to get one posters take on whether or not another poster is overly-negative in how he consumes a game.  The first is Texas sports related, the later is not.

If you don’t think “Ewers sucks,” I’m actually interested in why you have formulated that opinion.  I’m highly interested in the most important position and the team I love.   No personal offense intended - but I couldn’t care less about your opinion regarding my or someone else’s countenance during games.

And no, I don’t care to block you.  I enjoy your SPORTS takes.

I’m with you!  Well said!!

For my “most pleased” category, I can’t decide between these two:

Coach Flood - What he is doing with the offensive line (recruiting and development) makes me giddy!   I think OL has been a consistent weakness at Texas… quite honestly, since John Macovick (spelling) left - with a few exceptions.

Coach K and the defense - I was thrilled with Coach Flood from the day he was hired.  I mourned the unceremonious letting go of Coach Ash for over a year.  Well, now I wouldn’t trade Coach Ash for Coach K.  I love the way this defense gets to the passer, flies to the ball and brings  a wallop when it gets there.

Bet your bottom dollar that tomorrow, they’ll be sun…
