Game Thread – #1 Texas vs Texas State

Isn’t this twice you’ve referenced Pierce instead of Schlossnagle? Quit living in the past my brother! 🤣

Edit note: Daym autocorrect!
Just something about putting the words pierce and wiener together seems to make sense....i dunno man...my bad. hah

Texas wins 14-11.
What a wild game. These matchups against Texas State always seem to be bonkers.

Duplantier and Burns the only pitchers we used today that I'd expect to see this weekend. Way too much given up by the other arms, pitching depth will need to be built with time.

The bats kept at it all game, didn't let it get away from them and continued to chip away, then the big fly from Jalin Flores to put us over the top.

I guess that 7.00 era is going up. Texas State must be doing live sacrifices when they play us.
Take it for what's worth, but Schloss, Weiner, and most $9.95ers thought the world of Navarre. But Schloss and Weiner had little to say about Jason Flores and Volantis as it relates to freshmen pitchers.

As for the pitching tonight, we got to see a lot of guys that haven't been in live action for a while other than the SIM practice game. It wasn't good, but guys need to be thrown into live action to see how they would react. Plus, listening to Craig and Keith it sounded like the ump didn't give the outside corner, but liked the inside corner strikes. So, pitchers need to learn to adapt to an UMP strike zone. Each UMP is different just look at the last 2 weekends. The HBP is a different issue. It's a fine line. A). Pitchers want the inside zone area for strikes and B). batters want to be over the plate to cover the outside zone strike. Thus it's a fine line as to whether it's intentional ( a strike) or given a base to the hitter.

Got the feeling that the team was more focused on this weekend than Texas State and it almost cost them a game. Schloss will get them focus on the games and not what the useless little brother is doing. So, if any jesters are done towards the Texas dugout, Schloss will tell them it's towards him and ignore them. Or at least I'm guessing that is what he wants them to believe.

My guess for the weekend pitching:

Friday Riojas followed by Grubbs
Saturday: Harrison followed by one of the following:
A. Duplantier, Burns, Jason Flores
Sunday: Bing followed one of one the pitchers that wasn't used Saturday along with Saunier as the options.

This is a BIG weekend, not because of ot being little brother, but with fake ut facing LSU in Cajun land.

I just think little brother gets humbled this weekend by us. Schloss knows and understands how to get these guys focused especially at home in conference games

I could also see Harrison going on Friday and riojas on Saturday since that was the day of the week they pitched last week. They’d both be on full rest if so.

When I coached baseball, I stressed to the pitchers a strike is wherever the ump calls a strike. It was their job to find out what the ump was calling in the first inning. They needed to move the ball around and find out. If the ump was calling a pitch a foot over the batter's head, then they damn well better be throwing the ball a foot over the batter's head. If the ump is calling the outside corner a ball, then quit throwing it over the outside corner and expecting a strike. It's not rocket science.
