Game 3--Texas Tech v. Texas (recap & post-game added with quotes worth reading)

Thank you, both. Today's post-game helped a lot - the team was honest & insightful.

Basketball & football were in the same position during their seasons, but the coaches & players were never this open about it.

I concur with Street and Ag, Matt, you have done a truly outstanding job. Hell Joeywa has even done a great job this year.

Paraphrase, we didn't work em as hard because we thought we had the leadership in place. It's a heck of a catch 22, but this team misses Mark Payton's presence in the locker room more than anybody could assume, because you would think the two preseason all American candidates would fill the role.

I've said it a thousand times thus is a player personality problem not a staff or talent problem, the only thing I will lay at the feet of AG,Tommy and Skip is not addressing this earlier.

"....Didn't work them as hard......." Somebody needs to be asking Augie a few questions about that. Augie, did you get paid as much or more this year? Its not like your regular season last year was all that great. WHY DIDN'T YOU WORK THEM AS HARD or harder ? Isn't that your JOB as a coach; to work the players and get their potential to come through? These so called team leaders aren't getting paid to lead this team...YOU ARE !!! Sure its great to have team leaders, but they only HELP lead the team..They are only 18 and 19 years old, some 20..YOU are supposed to be leading this team.Isn't that what you get a million dollars a year to do ?

As a coach you are supposed to work your kids HARD every day and every year no matter what you have coming back. If Augie is serious about what he said as an excuse for the team's failure to execute, he needs to be let go just like Mack Brown was let go.... for failing to COACH. He let Parker French and every fan down.

The whole quote is: "We didn't work them as hard on attitude as we did with last year's team."

He's referring to the entitlement mindset they worked to overcome before last season - the key word, which you omitted, is attitude. He's not talking about work fielding ground balls in practice.

"Its all about attitude." If its all about attitude then he should have worked hard on it. Especially when he could see he had issues half way through the season. It doesn't matter if you are talking attitude, batting, fielding, etc.....Coach the team HARD on EVERY aspect of the game. He talks about how the game is so MENTAL. Well you better coach 'em hard on that part of it if you really feel that way.

Boy oh boy, now I can't wait for the job to become open and posted so our very own great big troll can throw his name into the hat. Why, with all of his experience and answers to it all, he's got to be a shoe-in for the position.

Boys and Girls, you are all clearly in the presence of greatness.

Unfortunately schools don't make hires like they used to. In this day and age Cliff would have never been offered the Texas job.
