FYI Chip Brown

His offense is pretty entertaining so that would be fun to have but I don't want him as our head coach.

I have to admit that my confidence that Briles is a better decision than Strong is a bit shaken after watching that game...ugh. I'm trying not to make a knee-jerk reaction, but that Baylor team was poorly prepared to win this BCS bowl game.

Maybe knowing that he was a serious candidate for the Texas job distracted Briles along with the players. It seemed they lost their focus and intensity especially the defense. Maybe the players resented Briles for not definitively denying he had any interest in the Texas job. Also, did Manny Diaz volunteer to share his tackling expertise during their bowl preparations? It sure looked all too familiar.

Let's hope we don't have to decide between Strong and Briles because we get one the bigger ones...Saban, Fisher and even Harbaugh.

You guys hanging your hat on one game crack me up. Upsets happen in bowl games all the time. If Baylor wins by 30, does Briles then become your favorite candidate? Relax!

Briles is an upgrade over Mack. Plain and simple.

Also said Patterson is worried about Fisher saying no and would look like UT is hiring its second choice. May not engage him as a result.

Ketch said "reading the tea leaves" there is no interest in Harbaugh.

Everyone needs to relax on the info coming out. This is what Patterson should be doing. Setting up a list of can't miss guys in case your money bombs miss the target.

About Briles - I don't want Briles until at least 4-5 other people have told us no.

If it comes down to a Briles vs Strong vs Franklin vs Dantonio as Chip is reporting (some smoke)... you have to give Briles the nod because of his ties in the state. I don't want very much of his current staff. He would need some serious help finding a new DC and support staff. He needs to hire great recruiters and assistant coaches to help him on the defensive front. He would need to expand the player personnel department and keep Suddes for sure. Would he entertain the idea of Robinson coming back? Doubt it and doubt Robinson would stay at Texas without Mack.

There's so much about Briles that you just can't take at face value. The hire of Briles goes against all the criteria laid out from Patterson the day Mack Brown announced his retirement. That said, the Briles hire would have more in state power than a Strong, Franklin, or just about any other B/C list candidates.

We've said to get ready for the fog machine to start going and it's already getting heavy y'all. Enjoy the ride.

he should. there were reports that briles was "acting strange" this week.
it starts friday folks. if saban says no, he goes down that list.
I thought Briles acted real strange at halftime when the ESPN reporter spoke with him. His mind seemed to be drifting. Guess when the interview of his life awaits the next day, a piddley ass BCS game can't hold his attention. ;)

Just said that Briles is to be interviewed Thursday & that Patterson is pretty much doing the coaching search alone with no input from the committee. I find this info very interesting.

Wait, didn't OB report earlier today that the committee had done the vetting, research, interviewing and approved of a candidate?

To the staff: What's your theory on why OB is reporting stuff that is totally different from what y'all are hearing? ie. Saban being out of the question and it now being between Franklin, Strong, Briles and Dantonio. Not that I doubt yall at all, I'm just curious to what y'all think.

Girthy Overlord, that's a good choice

Because people inside Texas are telling them that. Franklin will not be the coach. Period. He hid and lied about a rape. I'm surprise ketch is letting chip run with that. D'Antonio? Lol he would never sniff this job. Maybe Narduzzi

Not part of the staff but OB is highly monitored and that's not a knock on those guys at all. But they have eyes on them from everywhere... including national media outlets. They aren't first or last to the party but they are a little more conservative in the time frame of releases. May be due to sources requests or not having enough confirmation but it is what it is.

The other part of this is that Patterson has knack for controlling the message. The best way to control a message is not to keep everything quiet because there are always going to be leaks from different areas... the best way to keep things quiet is to provide a wealth of information going in all different directions. It causes confusion and in the end you don't know who to believe and who not to believe. At that point you can be choosy as to where you leaks come from and change it up. One group has solid info one week, the next week they don't and a different group does.

It would be like McP going to 6 different posters and telling all of them 6 different pieces of info regarding the coaching search. Each one of those posters would believe they have a credible source and one of those pieces of info may actually be correct. The other 5 aren't. I respect Chip, but I think he's being led in the smoke direction, same with some other places that have been mouthpeices for Bellmont in the past. That's not at all saying Chip is a Bellmont mouthpiece because I don't believe that is the case at all. But he does have ears inside the program and I'm sure Patterson's eyes and ears are well aware of that.

Google "Franklin Vanderbilt Rape" and ask yourself if this is the guy Texas is going to bring in (even without the Bev Kearney case floating around).

Then ask yourself, "If Franklin is on someone's list, do they really know what they are talking about?"

Girthy,

Didn't earlier today OB said the committee had done vetting, researching, interviewing and presented a recommendation to Patterson . . . then later totally contradicted it?

Thanks for the responses. That's pretty much what I was thinking too. More and more I'm finding myself reading HS primarily and just glancing on OB just to see any major updates. Thanks for the good work

I'm not staff but here is my theory.

I read Hornsports, OB, Inside Texas, and 247. Each site has their own unique sources. All these sources have a biased agenda and provides information to the sites that fits their agenda. And this information could be the truth, it could be half-truths, it could be deliberately misleading, or it could be an outright lie. The insiders for each site may or may not know which category the information falls in but we who subscribe to the sites and read them can never be for sure.
