Friday morning gut check

my gut tells me today passes without much noise .....
Only if the police are holding Chip Brown today for running naked in the street again.

My UCLA friend said if we get Mora we get a better coach then Shaw. He is worried about losing him. My nephew son in law has always said Briles is not coming to Texas. He coached at Baylor under Briles. So my guess is not anyone the net said we were interviewing or have interviewed. Pete Carroll I wish, but I think it will be Strong.

Now, now..nobody wants that

Here was the reference, from last night ....

Is that Chip Brown running with another coaching name?

OK, it's Friday morning. What's your gut telling you where this thing is headed? Not so much where you hope it's headed, but where you feel it's headed. I'll hang up and listen.
Benny,

I spoke with a source that's plugged in on the 40 yesterday and he indicated Briles. That appears to have changed in the past 18 hours or so. Looks like Mora is gaining steam in the search. I'm basically like everybody else on board and ready to just get this goat rope over. Name a coach for crying out loud! Tampa Bay named Lovie Smith less than 48 hours after canning its coach. What's the hold up? Are we gonna sweat it out and hope Fisher bites? Who knows . . . Who do you like of those discussed?

If it's Mora we will be going through this again in 3-4 years. Strong I think would at least have a chance. Gimme Fisher or Briles and let's start talking about assistants hires.
A lot of people here can see the future? No one here knows whats going to happen and how the new coach is going to perform.

No matter what happens be open minded andbgive the guy (whoever) a chance because your not rooting for a man but for a program.

Well know in time if it was the right hire.

what we do know is he has no ties to hs recruiting in Texas. we do know that it will take time to build those relationships. we also know that there are some programs that have a grasp on recruiting currently. these are facts and odds are not in his favor.

Is there anyone who thinks that Mora is a good choice? If so, can you convince the rest of us?

Mack didn't have them either? Carroll didn't, even Stoops didn't. Saying that he's not going to successfully is a complete guess, we simply don't know. I would prefer some one else but will be open and wish success for them.

It's kinda of strange, but through this whole thing there has never been a candidate mentioned that I necessarily liked above all others. Like most, hearing Saban, the Harbaughs, Fisher and Gruden excited me, but not sure if they are all really possibilities. I would like to think they are, but at this point, who knows? I would be very OK with any of those. I suppose my next tier would be Briles and Strong. Mora really doesn't do anything for me, but I'm not saying over the long haul he would not be a good choice. It's going to be interesting to see what call Patterson makes. Like everyone else, I'll keep waiting and hitting F5. Good to hear from you.

mack didnt come here under the same cloud that is current Texas recruiting. was Baylor getting 4-5 stars 15 years ago? was stoops even in ousux? was the sec in Texas? what does carroll have to do with Texas and the same thing applies, no one was already killing it in a talent rich state. i am all for a discussion, but do not act like these facts do not exist and it is a huge pipeline for success at Texas. period. it is a legit red flag. mora has never signed a 5 star in Texas. neither has malzahn, but he is in the NC game so it is a wash. Saban has, Fisher has, Briles has. Urban has.

None had roots in recruiting in Texas or in CA (Carroll) and had great success. Urban Meyer never signed a 5 star till her arrived at Florida, hell most great coaches never signed a 5 star until they arrived to flagship program.

Gut is telling me Saban, because he's a proven winner to help energize the fanbase and recruiting.

Part of my gut is also telling me Mora Jr. I really started liking Mora Jr. when they beat the Huskers earlier this year. His post game interview was extremely emotional. If you recall UCLA lost a player that I believe was hit by a car the week prior to the game. The interview somewhat reminded me of how Mack handled the loss of Cole many years ago. I think Mora Jr. would be a great "fit" for Texas and would kill it here.

you keep skipping over one key component.... today, not yesteryear- there are teams currently recruiting their tails off in Texas. mora would be significantly behind the 8 ball by a wide margin. we already are. i said in my previous post that it would take time to develop relationships in Texas. THSF is like no place else, you can agree or disagree with that. Coaches here are different than around the country. Texas is a unique situation and can not afford to mess up this hire. i have said from the get go we need to identify a top 3/4 and keep making them tell us no until we have offered each candidate 10MM/year... then we move on the to mora, strong, franklin types. mora like it or not is a settle hire. we are stealing anyone's precious baby away.

I agree go get your man at all cost.... but if for some reason they do select Mora or Strong it must have been for a reason. Are you presuming to know more than Petterson and the committee? Im not. Im just saying that they obviously weighed the pros and cons and must agreed that some of those cons could be overcome. Are we supposed to that the question of recruiting was not discussed and plan will kot be evaluated before the hire is made.

FWIW --

John McClain@McClain_on_NFL
Art Briles will stay at Baylor: You can take it to the bank
McClain is big Baylor guy who no doubt has some good connections there.

However, it should also be noted for those that do not know him, that his predictions of future events are usually horrible.

I believe what mcphaul and other insiders have posted about Saban. I think he is the most likely at this point. I also think that Patterson has done a masterful job at disguising his intent. That is evident by the scattershot of names that are being thrown it in this thread by people who are privy to inside information.

His report, just out now --

For all you Baylor fans worried that Art Briles might be leaving for the University of Texas, or any other job, forget about. Briles won’t be going anywhere.
Briles, who signed a 10-year extension last month, will be back coaching the Bears and trying to win a second consecutive Big 12 championship.

There had been reports that Briles is interested in the Longhorns of the NFL’s Washington Redskins, but he hasn’t been, and he will be back at Baylor.
