Friday feature - 'S' is for Swoopes

currently at the airport with my iPad air, getting ready to blast off to austin, tx.  nice little segment matt!

Great stuff Matt. I'm not as confident he will blow it up but I do think he will make some plays that surprise people.

Great piece.  I agree with much of what you say.  I also think of all of the times that Texas was counted out, but with a real coach, we won.  We won because the coaches and players were a team.  I believe we win tomorrow.

I just want to win, and I could care less if it is by 1 or 20.  I exaggerate.  I prefer by 20, but will take +1.

Some Aggies were teasing me today and asking if we were going to have enough players left to field a team.  My response?  I approve of  what Strong is doing, and it appears that Longhorn Nation does, as well.  He has five simple rules, and his rules will serve players who make it to the NFL well there, as well as in life.  If players can't abide by them, get out and make room for someone who wants to win.  We want to win, so for all that Texas is and can be, get out of our way!

Hook 'em!

Outstanding article.

You know, I'm reminded of when Shea Morenz was out against Oklahoma and James Brown stepped in to replace him. Texas had some good RBs and a decent offense...but it was a few plays here and there that made an otherwise pedestrian performance statistically (17-22 148 yards, 1 TD 1 INT; 9 carries 51 yards 1 TD) that made him look like Superman. And while Brown was the hero, the whole offense did their part, but the defense held Oklahoma to only 10 points.

That's what Texas needs on Saturday. Every person doing their job with maximum effort. When that occurs, trust is built and the team grows together.

By the way....The Hulk was the best Avenger. Not even close.

I was at that OU game. I called my Dad on the way out of the stadium and told him that James Brown was going to win a Heisman Trophy at some point in his career.

I think I remember a talking head (maybe Herbstreit) at ESPN having him as his Heisman frontrunner before the season started in 1997. Man, what a wasted year. What the heck happened???

After injuring his ankle in that first game in '97, he wasn't the same for the rest of the year. As far as I'm concerned, his career went from 'Roll Left' in '96 straight to coming back and getting his degree in Dec 2001.

Your homework before the game: Read this and then weigh in on how good Swoopes needs to be against BYU.

Cliche warning! Tyrone needs to play within himself, focus on his strengths and avoid his weaknesses.
