It's really interesting watching the roster take shape. Strong has pretty much indirectly said he's not pleased with the talent Mack left on the roster.

If my numbers are correct 41 out 85 scholarship players this year will be Freshman or RS Freshman. Which means in 2016, say we take 20 recruits, the roster could be close to 60 of 85 scholarship players as either FR or SO.

I see more fat trimming coming our way. IMO Strong has dismissed players for valid reason but he's also trying to create roster room for the younger guys.

This is what you call a rebuild. He's pretty much gutting the roster and starting over.

serious question...is that all that unusual? a typical recruiting class is 20, so after 2 years on the job wouldn't you expect to have 40 FR or RS Fr on board? attition doesn't happen until later (generally) for grades, rules violations, injuries, going pro, transfers or whatever. so maybe that 40 leaves you with 25-30 in 2 years but they're replaced by a new 40.

Strong is doing what he needs to do. A lot of the players that Mack had recruited had gotten used to the old way of doing things. Strong's kids will play a much tougher brand of football.

I think Mack had gotten too worried about injury and had also let discipline get too loose. That combo led to fielding teams that were not tough enough.

It will take a couple of more years, but Strong's teams will play good, tough, hardnosed football.....like football should be played.

In three years we should challenge TCU and Baylor for the conference crown...maybe even get in the play-off system.

I've read on a number of sites that Mack's players had a sense of entitlement and that showed up with how hard (or not hard) the team played and consequently was reflected in the overall record.  I disagree, I think its all about talent as Mack's teams played for national championships with the same culture fans complained about at the end of his tenure.  The difference, UT didn't have the jump on other programs in securing commitments as other programs caught up to UT with junior days as well.

Coach Strong and his staff can lead this team with an accountable, hard working atmosphere and it won't reflect in the overall record until the talent level on this team improves.  That will take time as Mack didn't have a recruiting advantage at the end of his tenure and front line talent as well as depth is suffering.  I agree with those who call this a total "rebuild" as UT is a ways away from being elite.  This football team needs a polarizing offensive player to get the fanbase excited and help generate more recruiting momentum.  The only problem is a polarizing player offensively is usually a QB and this team doesn't have one currently on the roster.

Maybe, maybe not  ;)
