I sure hope so. They missed him today, even though he hasn’t been playing particularly well. Hopefully the re-aggravation of the sprain isn’t severe. We should know more soon.

That’ll be one to watch. If he’s out next week, that helps Texas massively.

I have two thoughts (that you didn't list):

2. We're not ready for prime time. I think we're probably there next season. Some important pieces are now firmly in place.

It may seem silly to say this, but the Big 12's refusal to address its officiating problem could be a large reason why Texas ultimately elects to leave the conference. This officiating problem gets worse by the week, and other Big 12 teams have been just as negatively impacted by it as Texas has. It's certainly something to keep an eye on as conference realignment inches closer.

Let's pull a Notre Dame/BYU and be an independent. I saw several blown calls that went WVU's way and I'm sick of seeing bad officiating hurting Texas. I was at the game and haven't seen the replay yet but that call against Sam on 4th down appears to be BS.

On another note, Herman should have went for it on 4th and short instead of kicking a FG late in the game. I told the people I sit with that play may come back to bite us and well, it did.

On Bowman, Kliff Kingsbury said that Bowman had trouble breathing while throwing in warmups before the second half. That's not promising for Tech.

I could see Texas going the independent route; I don't agree with it, but I see it. I felt the same way about choosing to kick the field goal. It shouldn't have mattered because Ehlinger probably got the first on 3rd down and it wasn't reviewed.

Well, there's some water under this bridge. The Baylor thing almost caused it. I was told the phrase "they go or we go" was thrown around among the higher ups. It was far more serious than most realize, to UT anyway.

The idea that was being tossed around at the time was to go the Independent route until at such point the superconferences are created. The common thought was that a Texas departure of the Big 12 will help force the the SC thing to happen sooner rather than later anyway.

It's amazing how we can never put together a complete football team or a complete football game. If we had this year's offense last year, we would've been 9-3. If we had last year's defense this year, we'd be 8-1 or 9-0 right now.

The defense has really regressed. If there's any consolation, it's that the main culprits are mostly upperclassmen. I think Nelson, Gary Johnson, and Omenihu next year will be the only seniors horribly missed (in terms of on-field play).

Nelson has certainly been big this year. Omenihu has mainly had a solid year, as well. Johnson has not been great. He’s made flashy plays and is very athletic, but hasn’t played up to his potential. Texas is going to need help at LB in the worst of ways if the defense is going to improve.

Despite all the negative nancies on this board and other boards, Texas is better than they have been in at least 5 years and is making progress. Not to mention that we getting really good play from the QB position.

If he leaves I’d advise him to hire a good DC that runs something other than a 3-2.  I have heard that the 3-2 has difficulty slowing down the run.

Duffy is a solid backup, but he’s not Bowman. Duffy will give Texas issues because of his ability to use his legs.

It seems Orlando benefited greatly from having the right personnel for his scheme last season. Malik Jefferson was a much bigger piece than some give him credit for. Now, Orlando doesn’t have the right personnel for his scheme and it’s showing.

Doesn't a good coach adapt his style according to the players they have? 

This loss was on the defense and Herman, who I believe got out coached.
