Five Thoughts Following The Win Over West Virginia

Seems a little early to be bailing on Ehlinger. I could probably buy that on  Buechele, though I think you could do a lot worse at QB than him.
Didn’t we hear garbage like that about colt when he came out also???? Agree with you 100% Daniel. Sam gonna prove some folks wrong in a hurry

Garbage might be a bit harsh; just the man’s opinion.

We all love Sam’s moxie.  But he is far from a finished product.  I agree with you okihorn; I think Sam’s ceiling is much higher than where he stands as a TF.  But moxie aside, there are some glaring weaknesses that need to be addressed or else Eastexhorn’s post may prove to be insightful.

Yea I do take back the word garbage. But I do feel it’s not fair to assume that with a freshman and do believe the same happened with colt and he turned out pretty good. I can also see not getting the hopes ya because it’s been YEARS since a QB has turned out good at Texas.  I do apologize for the wording. There’s just a lot of folks not giving him credit when I believe he deserves some.  I’ll be glad to see him with a completely healthy line is all.

I have seen enough positive with Sam as a freshman to believe he will be a special player for Texas.  Especially if we develop a decent OL to give him time to actually use the playbook.

I didn't mind the garbage verbage...heat of the battle commentary!

I know I'm late to the discussion –I'm just getting a chance this cool Sunday evening to watch the game  (busy weekend , so DVR).

The B12 refs stunk it up again. I'm overcome with disbelief that they used replay (yet again) to assess a penalty when no flag was thrown. Is this a new rule or did I just have a misconception about replay rules?

Also, on the drive following Texas' first score in Q2, WV was given 3 yards on first down when the catch was clearly at the LOS. I had to rewind the DVR to verify. Yep, caught at the 36; spotted at the 39.

I don't expect perfection from the refs, but I'm only through the first half and already apoplectic over the calls by the refs for harshing the good feels for Sam, the OL and run game success.

I wouldn't normally think it, but I guess it's a plus this time to know the outcome is a W for the good guys.

My summation...

Beating up QB's was huge once again(ouch, don't look at my finger), Sam Ehlinger was big time and ouch once again (but he is a fighter), Deshon Elliott was huge once again (saved a TD),  Williams back at LT was huge once again...  Those are my thoughts!

I really enjoyed watching the improved line play. I thought the run schemes were better with more counters, pin and pull schemes, and less straight zone blocking. I loved seeing Warren at H back. That would be his ticket to the NFL because he's not a running back.  Sam's legs can make something out of bad plays though he frustrates me with his decision making at times.

At the start of the season I said I wanted to see improvement as the season progressed and I think we are seeing that. Defense is light years from last year and the offense is gaining traction while battling poor line play.

Hook 'em
