Fisher signs extension...

JS keeps dropping hints like something is already close to wrapped up. mentioned Fisher is being smart to ink something before the Texas job closes

I know he is not everyones favorite but Bobby Burton had this cryptic post on the thread about the extension, He has yet to elaborate:

There is no doubt in my mind that Jimmy Sexton will do everything in his power to have one of his clients land the Texas job....Big $$$ for him too.

Fisher signs extension...could this be what McP meant when he said Fisher's stock was failing? Somebody got word that he was going to sign the extension so Texas gave up on him? And JS saying that Fisher is smart to sign now before the Texas job closes...hmmm...Sexton reps both Fisher & Saban. If one of them has the job locked up would he tell the other one about it? I would imagine so.

Remember who will make Sexton the most money by getting him the Texas job (hint: it is not Fisher). This signed extension gets Fisher significantly more money at FSU moving forward with Kirby Smart getting a nice raise at Bama. However, conversely, perhaps the no buyout clause, allows for Fisher to have leverage against Bama to get even more money and Smart to get a nice raise as the new HC at Florida? Interesting times, indeed!

What if - just what if, that the coaches signing extensions mean exactly what they mean? What if all we have been reading are desperate graspings at straws, by people who want a coach that bad?

Let's consider that possibility. Who has signed one lately?

Saban

Briles

Malzahn

Fisher

etc.

So, if they are truly off the table, who does that leave? It looks like 2nd tier level coaches to me. At least in the college ranks. :)

Good Business Good Business....just sign it that is Good Business, yes it is.

This is not earth shattering news. What would one expect under the present circumstances? With a MNC game in the balance, it would be suicidal to delay signing an extension that is on the table since his team would be aware of such a delay. A delay in signing an extension at this time would potentially derail and negatively effect the psyche of his team.

Serious?

Valid point. But hasn't that extension been on the table for a while--meaning before his name was linked to the Texas job?
So why sign it now unless this was coming at the tail end of a long negotiation process to get it just right?

Don't get me wrong buyouts are made to be broken and I get that contracts mean nothing but the timing of this in relation to the open horn job makes me think that this was his way of saying "thanks but I'm happy here"

Had he signed the extension weeks ago prior to being really mentioned as a candidate for the job (like mora or briles did) then I could buy that he was still involved as a candidate.

The timing is curious to me.
Joe, I think you answered your own question. Likely negotiating finer points.

Notice a trend? All of these guys have been mentioned as the next possible HC at Texas!

It could be that he's been told Saban is 1 you are option 3. He signs it because it makes sense to do so. If things fall his way he gets a huge pay raise.
This is my inkling as well. I completely agree that Sexton is brilliant.

I agree with the other posters who said this may be a sign that we've already identified and locked on to our target. The timing and the amount he agreed to is odd unless he knew he wasn't a candidate here.

He had to sign it. Sexton knows that once Saban signs with Texas, Jimbo loses leverage.
Id agree with that if the extension hadnt been sitting on his desk for a while.

He's about to take fsu to the national championship game for the first time in what 10 years? He doesn't need leverage.
