I have a border collie. It's a spaz but I love that dog. My friend actually raises australian shepherds, very smart animals. I was close to getting an australian shepherd but I've always had a love for border collies. 

I have a female English Setter that is my shadow. She is right here beside my chair as I am typing. Australian shepherds and border collies are fabulous dogs as well. I have friends who have both. I have had Irish setters before, and they were great dogs. I don't know what I could change about my setter that would make her a better dog.

Of course, I like all dogs.

My uncle has an English Setter. Travels everywhere with him. Great dog.

We used to hunt quail with a setter.  That dog had an amazing gait.  They way she moved, she absorbed no shocks or jolt to her joints.  You could have set a level on her backbone it remained so flat and still.  Which meant she could go all day long, and then some.  And cover huge areas - my god.  Then wake up ready to go again.  All the other dogs (Vizslas or Labs) thought she was nuts.

One more setter note --

Did you ever venture into Jake's on 5th back in the day?   -- it of the crooked shuffleboard table.

Well their restroom doors did not have any identifying words (no "Mens"/"Womens") -- the only thing on the doors were wooden cutouts of the shapes of a dog.  One was of an American Pointer.  The other was an English Setter.  You had to know our dogs.

As regards the football team - our penalty for smoking pot is the same as for domestic violence,

The penalty may be the same, but the chances given a person before the axe falls are different. Those who fail drug tests get second or third chances. Those who commit violence will get the axe immediately. Big difference.
