Good article on our young QB. . . .

AUSTIN, Texas -- The doubts about Tyrone Swoopes ever since his high school days at tiny Whitewright (Texas) High School weren’t unreasonable.

Swoopes was raw. Special tools. High ceiling. Reaching it would require extensive work and time.

What a difference six starts can make. The Texas quarterback’s personal ascent in the past two months has occurred at a pace nobody could’ve predicted. In the process, the Longhorns discovered a quarterback who has defied all expectations.

“It's just so fun to watch the development of Tyrone and how he's getting better and better week by week,†coach Charlie Strong said. “Our offense is going to go as our quarterback goes.†. . . . . .. .

the national accolades are approaching...

what were the chances in the preseason we'd see an article like this? zero? absolute zero?

he's young, so likely some bumps and bruises still to come but there's more to like about the kid than not like for sure.

The title of the article ought to be, "I allowed myself to be swept up in the recruiting hype of Jerrod Heard and forgot about the recruiting hype surrounding Tyrone Swoopes".

On that subject. . .

I'll still trade JT Barnett for Swoopes straight up today . ..(JT was the "other" QB that year, the one we passed on who is currently ranked as teh #3 passer in the nation. . . .

Maybe in time Swoopes will either prove me wrong or make the question moot as both become great QBs. . .who knows. . .

Not to worry, it is a condition suffered by recruitniks nationwide.  It is easily cured by a dose of reality, quickly followed by a gut check.

I think it is always easy to see where two players are today and forget that environment plays a role in that.

Would JT be as good as he is today going through what Swoopes did last year and the lack of development? Possibly, but it is not just cut and dry.

Just look how far Swoopes has come just the first half of this year with proper coaching.

Again not saying you're wrong, just that I don't think it is as cut and dry as it seems.

A valid point, JT is surrounded by more talent.   But JT is and was a much better passer than Swoopes .. . .not that Swoopes hasn't been impressive.   The chances of us winning both UCLA and OU with JT .. . .I'd say are pretty high.

Again, a matter of opinion but the #3 passer rating in the nation is pretty freaking impressive. . ..

Yep, hard to say. He was less of a project, coming out of high school, for sure.
