Hey guys I just got back from lunch and while I was in the car I had the radio on with Dave Tepper and whoever is co-host is I dont remember his name. Anyways they were laying into UT and Coach Strong pretty good. It was brutal. Said that Texas had to settle because nobody else wanted to come here. Said Strong would be hard pressed to go 7-5 next year. Just absolutely trashed the school and the hiring of Charlie Strong. Did anybody else here catch that?

Listening to Coach Strong, I have a great degree of confidence in him. I think he will shut up a lot of the "negative nellies" by the quality of the product (team) that he puts on the field. This man is extremely confident with no hint of arrogance or entitlement. COACH CHARLIE STRONG is the REAL DEAL!!!!

I was flipping channels while eating lunch a little while ago and the goon on FoxSports1 was basically doing the same thing. Said Texas had to "settle" and that Strong was no where near the top of the list. No idea who the guy was, I've never seen him before.

The process was a little crazy with all of the swirling rumors but who cares? In the end we wound up with what I believe now to be the best we could have gotten.

It drives me crazy how the media has spun this entire HC search. The media forcibly puts every great coach in a spotlight by hounding them about whether they wanted to go to Texas-- whether interested or not. Most of these big name coaches were, or are, involved in bowl games, or playoffs. No coach is going to come out and say, "Well yes I'm very interested, and yes I don't mind blowing off my current commitments, or having my players and staff be massively sidetracked by my interest in UT."

There isn't a coach out there, with big games with their current team, that's going to say that while entrenched in there own immediate priorities.

So then the media spins it as bc coaches are saying no, that Texas is suddenly an unwanted program and a job nobody wants. Are you kidding me?!?!

I can't wait for the years to come when the story changes to what a great job Coach Strong is doing and what a great fit he's been at Texas.

If the media had a collective hole, I'd tell them where to shove it. We are Texas, and it's our time. Hook'em.

Well Dave is actually a Horn fan, he worked in Austin radio for a stint, his co host is Jerome Solomon, he writes for the chronicle and cover the major Houston franchise and U of H, he is a bit of an Aggy love, because he has a good relationship w Sumlin from his days at the University of Houston. Dave was all in for a big name, their "thing" is to make fun or and mock everyone though. AJ Hoffman, another ESPN Houston host (The Blitz) worked in Austin radio, and covered the team isn't thrilled w the hire right now either, I asked him on twitter and his response was "meh". I love the hire as most of you know from my frequent Pro-Strong rah-rah posts.

BTW ESPN 97.5 is actually the carrier for the Longhorn games in Houston.

Frankly I don't care what these guys think. Was Strong my first choice, no. But let the guy do his thing before you judge him. Hearing them talk only increases my desire to see Strong succeed. They loved Mack cause he kissed their butts at every turn. Personally, I'm relieved to have a coach known for his coaching as opposed to glad handing.

It wasn't Jerome on there today. He's pretty level headed and I don't think he would have joined in with the bashing. And it wasn't Dave as much as the other guy. I guess he was a guest host filling in for Jerome or something.

I will agree, to an extent, that Texas did settle. Texas has all the money and is a dream job. However, with Mack and Powers mucking things up behind the scenes, it became increasingly difficult to get a coach who wanted to come in behind a bitter coach who was ousted and a president who didn't want him gone until the BMD's forced his hand.

He failed miserably there.
