El Mahico post on OB

Naw the Hicks deal was when Hicks (who has an account at OB and has occasionally posted) made a post where I've forgotten exactly what it said, but I believe it was in regard to rumors and inside info hurting negotiations etc
Hicks through Ketch later apologized for what went down and the fall out in that thread which had been removed apparently by the request of Hicks directly[/QUO

IIRC Dizz the person who emailed EM was SHICKS and pretty much told him to stand down and wouldn't doubt if he emailed McPhaul as well

I can tell you from personal experience that it is quite chilling when someone steps out from the anonymity of the keyboard and threatens you and your family. It changes your perspective.

Just why EM remains over there is a mystery. Truly a mystery of the ages.

So let's say just for discussions sake Mac comes back. How many of the current coaches do y'all think will be leaving for greener pastures and who? if we loos say 4-6 coaches how on earth will Texas be able to replace them with a lame duck coach?

We won't...and that is all on Mack.

The El Mahico gentleman has a friend that is a coach of the football team. Very simply, that is the only source he has. This makes EM an excellent poster of the doings of the team itself - practices, team scuttlebutt, etc.

But, let's stroll down the logical path a moment. Getting team and recruiting information is miles away from getting legitimate information of the internal workings of management. Employees (coaches) are not privy to what's going on in Bellmont (Patterson, Mack, Etc.). Sure, they hear rumors and speculation and they derive conclusions just like we do from these kinds of blogs. But, I can assure you that Mack Brown is not telling his coaches anything - just like he isn't telling the recruits. He simply cannot afford to tell them anything.

So, don't panic over EM's post - he is simply parroting what his coaching friend is telling him and his coaching friend doesn't know diddly squat either. I'm sure EM is a fine fellow and means well, but try to overlook the junk flying around right now and simply observe. He probably should do the same.

As far as the state of the program today? Here is my take, based on what I have observed:

1. If Nick Saban had no intention of leaving Alabama - he would have emphatically put that rumor to bed in Jan.

2. If Nick Saban wanted more money - he simply had to tell his agent and it would be done.

3. If Nick Saban wanted bad investments erased - he simply had to tell his agent and it would be done.

4. The Saban rumors have been flying around since Jan. - if Alabama wanted them put to an end, they would offer him a ridiculous extension.

5. If, in fact, they HAVE offered an extension, it is damned telling that Saban hasn't signed it.

6. If the CW is that Saban is too busy trying to win a natty and doesn't have time to jack with external distractions, I claim BS. He is too much of a detail cruncher to overlook his personal life.

7. Finally, the University of Texas has an extremely distressing habit of doing the exact opposite of what the fanbase expects, so take every rumor with a grain of salt and expect the unexpected.

See his latest post? Claiming if brown comes back he will virtually have no say on recruiting of the way practices are handled. It's retarded.

is it possible that Patterson knows that is one way to force Mack into accepting retiring at the end of the season ? Mack would be a lame duck with no input on recruiting / game planning etc

even if we beat baylor Mack needs to go - we need fresh and dynamic minds to run our football program

I don't think he and Patterson have even spoken. All of this is just smoke, in my opinion.

its getting more ridiculous. I think he needs to seriously think about what he is posting because if he's just reporting what people are telling him he should be able to figure out he's getting played

someone is likely feeding EM BS and trying to find a leak. He's getting played like violin and eating it up

I don't even know what to say about his latest thread. Just read it now on OB and it's utterly ridiculous. If true we have a true clown show organization unless it's intended to force Mack to retire. I suspect, however, it's EM being played and this is completely false. I'm disappointed in EM posting crazy stuff like this lately.

Would agree with this!

If he is really believing what he's posting then I have serious concerns for the guy. Even most of the OB posters are skeptical of his post...that doesn't happen too often.

Yeah - I'm sure people like Bob Rowling, Hicks, Moffett, etc have changed their minds in pushing to hire Saban, or another big time coach if that doesnt work out all so they can bring Mack back....but back with him neutered to basically just a figurehead that has no control - with recruiting, practices, etc left up to someone else.

Truly hilarious. He's either resigned to playing a "role" or just posting whatever even if it doesnt pass his own BS detector

This. With each and every new thread that comes out, all I can do is SMH.

That would have to be the dumbest damn decision in the world, if true. And what if MB bites, and takes this "offer"?! This program will hit rock bottom, if they allow this to happen and Patterson would be a joke of a hire to everyone.

Doc,

Great post. I agree with all points but need to clarify number 7. The guys driving this train are not the same old BMD's as in the past and are truly steamrollers. In fact, they have the support of the "old guard". In addition, there is new leadership at Belmont that is not satisfied with the status quo and will not resort to business as usual. Finally, Powers does not have the political capital to fight any of this.

If we had a Jimbo Fisher type coordinator on staff to take over is could understand that scenario EM posted as being an option. But we don't. We have a 60+ year old failed HC as our DC and a guy who's been average at best and is probably leaving after this season as our OC. Are we going to hire Chad Morris to come in as HCIW for one year? Doubtful.

Mack needs to go. At this point I really don't care who the guy is who replaces him as long as he's not the HC next season. Saban would be ideal but even if he says no I really wouldn't care. Find someone else. Hire a sarkisian type to jump start the program again and give it new life. I just want Mack gone. The sooner the better.

This is where you and I differ. Living in TN and having inlaws and a wife that are big Volunteer fans, I lived through the firing of Phil Fulmer and their attempts at reviving their program just removed from an SEC title game. They went out and hired what I would call a Sarkesian type that did give new life to the program. But it all quickly unraveled due to unforeseen circumstances and it continued into a multi-year downward spiral until the same fans that were calling for Fulmer's head were wishing that they had kept him.

That's what my worry is with a change from a long-time head coach into new waters. You and I agree that change needs to occur, but there needs to be a process and the new guy needs to have had success, be able to make a smooth transition, and be prepared and seasoned for the expectations that come with being the head coach of Texas.

I too am disappointed in EM of late, though I hate to pile on. Surely he can't believe this latest news (the one about Mack staying with no control).

It doesn't even make a shred of logical sense. I get he's just reporting what he's hearing, but he needs to think first about what he's saying.

Completely understand where you're coming from. And it's definitely an issue. That said, comparing the Texas job now to where Tennessee was when they got rid of Fulmer aren't the same. There conferences aren't the same and the recruiting bases aren't the same. A new coach could come in and recruit well without much effort. For instance, James Franklin would be a guy that I consider a Sark type hire. I think he could come in and kill it here. Like Sark he has a little above average record at his school. But he's a good offensive mind like Sark and a young guy who's known as a good recruiter. Neither would be their schools first choices but in the end I think both would do very well.

The Texas job is in a class almost all by itself right now. This isn't the same job as when guys like McWilliams and Mackovic were hired. This is a beat mode situation. And the fact that it's located in the weakest of the BCS conferences means it's also the easiest path to a playoff. If you're a coach in the SEC or PAC 12 why wouldn't you want to get a better job with a better path to a title? You don't think Saban is thinking that coming off a loss to Auburn?

I think a lot of people are so smitten with Saban are the ones who don't think there are other coaches in the country who could do the same. Although I want Saban as bad as anyone it's not a death sentence of he doesn't come. There are literally hundreds of top notch coaches in the country. We just have to find one of them to come in a resurrect this program. And I guarantee you there would be just a few more coaches inquiring about the Texas job today than there were wanting to follow Fulmer. There's a reason why Tennessee was forced to hire Dooley and Kiffin when nobody else wanted those guys. It's because nobody else wanted the job. Will muschamp and Kirby Smart told them they'd rather stay as coordinators at their schools then take that job. You think Smart or Chad Morris turn down Texas if we come calling? That's the difference.

But I do hope we find the right guy and don't only look at names. I'm worried that if Saban says no we are going to look like a bumbling bunch of fools without any kind of plan to replace Mack.
