My co-host Justin Wells reported a few months ago per a source that Dodds was planning to retire around the summer of 2014. Tonight Chip Brown on OB is reporting per a source that it could happen after the 2013-14 school. Nice job Justin with the early scoop.

It would be better if it were official immediately. Just sayin.

We've heard this before but I think it could be real. Let's talk successors - who are your favorite candidates?

Oliver Luck HAS to be one of the bigger names to consider.

Look for a trifecta, when it does happen. Dodds, Powers, Brown....

And just for the record Justin's source is legit.

Chip Brown has been saying for about a year that Dodds is getting a $1MM post tax retention bonus in August 2014. Brown has speculated that Dodds will retire after that but how soon?

From C. Brown:

During the last 48 hours, in multiple conversations with sources close to the university about all the matters currently going on and the possibility on Friday of more revelations coming out about inappropriate relationships at UT, I've picked up information on some other key matters.

If Mack Brown had to be replaced right now, the leading candidates would be:

Stanford's David Shaw

Florida's Will Muschamp

Alabama's Kirby Smart

And sources told me Deloss Dodds has told Bill Powers that he plans to retire as AD after the 2013-14 school year and move into a consulting role at Texas that would pay him $100,000 per year (a role already outlined in his contract). UT officials deny Dodds, who turns 74 in August, has any timetable to retire.

Dodds has told Powers to form a search committee well in advance and to be prepared for the transition and that Dodds' top candidates to replace himself would be:

Big 12 commissioner Bob Bowlsby

Notre Dame AD Jack Swarbrick

Pittsburgh AD Steve Pederson

Other sources told me Dodds and Powers will probably step down from their current positions at the same time, barring unforeseen circumstances. So it could be that Texas is looking for a new AD and president by the beginning of the 2014 football season.

I want to make it clear since some have posted that they think I'm "sitting on stuff" or "covering stuff up" so the university won't get mad at me. I do think more could come out with regard to inappropriate relationships being looked at by Bev Kearney's attorneys.

I've also talked about how those relationships have to be validated and confirmed in order for us to report them. And when reporting on such matters, it takes a legal standard to report it, one that has to hold up in court against slander and libel laws.

That's my choice without a doubt.

Last night it was everyone panicking over UT was going to brought down by an ex coach..Tonight it's Dodd is out and taking everyone with him..Both were supported by outstanding sources which don't want to be named? Can't wait for tomorrow's rumor which will also be supported by impeccable sources that don't want to be named.

Justin reported this back in October. I was making the point that many others are starting to report Dodds may retire. My point is Justin was way out in front on this months ago.

I have seen nothing other than Twitter as sources. I love rumors and speculation but that is all they are at this point. A couple more scandals hit the fan and Dodds might have a time line set for him. IMHO

You have seen nothing? What do you want to see and from whom? Sources normally will call someone & give info the info is either posted somewhere or tweeted out. U can see above where Chip Brown posted info on OB about Dodds

Having retired myself I know how it works. He may leave tomorrow or be there ten more years? Till he says it's over this is nothing but sourced speculation. I am talking about making something about possibly nothing?

It's time for him to go. We need new ideas, new direction (mainly a kick ass and take names philosophy on the football field and basketball court). Mack and Rick need to soon follow.

What if he has told someone his timeline for retirement & that person is the source? I don't think that is speculating.

What if he told someone he was thinking of retiring and when asked when he said, "who knows maybe next year?"
