Did Mack Brown try to sabotage Texas?

I don't believe Mack was trying to poison the recruiting class at all. He is a smart man and that would be a seriously stupid move. I, also, don't believe Mack had the kids best interest at heart, either. It was just all about Mack - is all.
Mack's persona is he wants to be loved. He was being maudlin at best and self pandering at worst.

He has simply gotten too old and it was way past time for him leaving. He should have resigned after the 2005 game, but he simply couldn't let go and overstayed his welcome.
So he could cash in on another $40-$50 million...

Much ado about nothing, IMO. First, Bonney was speaking only for himself. He said nothing about what Mack "told all the committed players."

But, objectively, this goes perfectly with what Mack ALWAYS told committed recruits: "if you're not sure and you want to take visits, you're NOT committed." That's what the whole "No visits" policy was all about.

IMO, he probably told Bonney that if he did take visits, don't count on the new staff to hold his scholarship.

In fact, judging by their actions, the new staff was probably fine with this. I believe they want to perform their own evaluations and are not too upset if recruits jump ship if they're not ALL IN on Coach Strong's new way of doing things.

You're totally right driftwwod. It becomes so disheartening to see our fans continue to harp and harp about phantom problems allegedly created by Mack Brown...which in fact does no good for anyone at all. It only continues to divide our fan base. . All we're reading here is a bunch of total horse hooey that may or may not have any truth to it.....without hearing one word from Mack Brown himself about what happened...without having any further clarification from Bonney on what happened...and yet we have the fans here that just want to continue stirring the sh** pot about Mack Brown.

He's gone....let it go. Move on to the next era. Why let your imagination run wild? You don't know the whole story and you never will. Accept it.

No way he did that AT the banquet. Commits, the team, administration, etc.... Too many people for this to only come out now. One on one? What Bonney heard and what was said may have been lost in translation (how he understood Mack or how he expressed himself now). So many seem to be saying that Mack should not be honest with kids he built a relationship with and lie(?) or mislead(?) and it's OK because he's getting paid. Mack pulled this program up by the bootstraps and created all the standard he's being judged by. It was time for him to move on, but damn some posters are the worst what-have-you-done-for-me-lately, spoiled fans willing to believe the anything negative about him. You'd think Mack went 5-7 just to spite us and he never wanted to win based on many comments. Move on.

I feel you I suggested maybe aggie paying and the majority got heated saying i was acting aggie for having an opinion.

All the attorneys on the board please advise what happened to freedom of speech, hell freedom of opinion?

Seriously? A staff member is asking this question?

For the love of .....

Mack at coaches conference was signing autographs, "Hook 'em".

Seriously - are you really staff or a troll?

Mack is a petty POS. I have no use for a man that stole millions from my school.

I hope I never see him or hear about anything he does for the rest of my life.

Oh my God a "staff member" posted something for discussion. We should shut down the entire site.

You and the rest of the Mack-o-philes will never give up on the pedestal you placed him on. You dont like the question dont reply. Its as simple as that.

Dont say that. Could get you called a name....

Always loved Mack, but a couple of things he's done recently have really made me question him.

I would almost bet Mack said something to the effect... remember this is a great school, you didn't commit to me, you committed to the University of Texas. However, if you feel you need to look at any other options know that I'll always be willing to assist you in any way I can. But remember Texas is the school you chose for a reason.

Now, I don't know what Mack said... but I'm betting he never told the kids to "hey, I'm not gonna be here now go look around!" I'm eager to hear what other commits have to say regards this matter.

The thread is about a news report. What's the problem with that? Frankly, I'm glad he shared it because I don't get Houston news stations.

I respect the man's many accomplishments, but I quit respecting the man long ago. He is an insecure egotistical person with great PR skills and a convincing facade. IMO, of course.

Since you asked, the first amendment applies only to government suppression of speech, not to a private message board or to individuals.

I know the title (know shared on multiple boards) is NOT what was quoted. . .

What concerns me is supposed TEXAS grads who will swallow hook line and sinker any claim that fits their agenda without even knowing the actual story . .

Oh well . . .

Mack Brown was a snake, he slithered under the radar after another loss to Baylor. He dodged the bullet while he poisoned the well. Mack Brown should have been fired after the 2010 season, Hell I've always thought he should have been fired after the 2003 season.
The good news is Mackdaddy and his ramshackle staff did sign a pretty talented bunch of players to UT that are on the roster even though Mack had no clue about developing their talent. Considering some of the wash out bunches of recruits Mack had over his tenure, Coach Strong has something on campus to work with, is capable of developing the 2014 class he signs next Wednesday.

Best wishes for Coach Strong and staff, I'm looking forward to watching a team managed by a competent coach.
I concur.

No offense but grow the F up. . .

You may not like a poster making a remark. ..but it does not give you the right to insult them for having the audacity of taking a different position then yours or offering their own opinion. . . .some of us are intelligent enough to recognize both the pros and cons of people . ..

And I'll point out. . .the story has already been both misquoted and taken out of context. . ..nor has it been confirmed by another recruit yet.. . . .

It is ironic that in your next post. ..you whine about someone making an attack on Mack "being called a name". . .yet you. . .a staff member has no problem calling others names.. . .

Leave the shaggy bevo nonsense to the cess pool. . .
