Anyone been to Hibiscus? Going there Saturday.

Also where should I take out-of-staters for Mexican, Tex-Mex, and Southwestern food? Heard great things about Stampede 66.

Hibiscus is fantastic, you will enjoy that meal. Mexican = Javiers, Tex-Mex = Matts Rancho (same as Austin), Manny's Uptown, or Mi Cocina, Southwestern = Fearings (may be your best meal of all)

For Tex-Mex, try:

Mia's, Matt's or even Herrera's on Maple

Mi Cocina is a very decent seconc choice

For real Southwestern, Fearings is a tad over/rated and priced, and you're better off heading to Santa Fe. :( An hour flight…..start at Pink Adobe…..

Joe T Garcias might have the simplest menu in the world. Last time I was there, it was just fajitas or enchiladas.

I don't know if it is still there, but Mac's House restaurant , in Fort Worth, had the recipe of a salad that was beyond awesome. It originated with a now defunct restaurant called "The House of Mole" and I think Mac bought the place out and became the owner of the secret salad recipe.

lI have tried for years to duplicate the salad, but never quite did. The basis of the salad was chopped iceberg lettuce with an oil and vinegar type dressing. That's all I knew for sure.

If Mac's is still there you would do yourself a disservice by not eating their salad - I promise you.

Hibiscus is solid and you will like it. If you let me know what type of food you prefer I can give you my recommendations on menu items.

For Mexican - try Mi Dia from Scratch in Grapevine. If you are into guacamole, they offer a $12 serving made at your table that is delicious

Tex-Mex - try Chuy's, Blue Goose Cantina, Mi Cocina (the Sunset Ribeye Fajitas are great), or Manny's Uptown (good brisket tacos)

As a side note, if you are fine traversing through the ghetto you should try the street tacos at Fuel City

Joe T has good margaritas and a killer patio, but the food is as mentioned earlier, just fajitas and enchiladas. Served family style, they bring out two tacos, rice, guacamole, beans and the main entree. I work a block south of the location and would recommend several other Ft. Worth choices.

El Paseo on Jacksboro Highway has always been a favorite. El Asadero and La Playa on North Main both are consistently good. Near the 7th street corridor is Chuy's-always a line to get in. Mi Cocina and Cantina Laredo in Sundance Square are both nice choices and the visitors would enjoy seeing the sights there. Hope this helps.

And doc longhorn, go to here to find that wonderful salad dressing recipe:

Guys, a Chicken Express just opened across the street. Fried gizzards and fries at 10pm? Very tempting.
