Yesterday’s official announcement that the upcoming eighth season of Dexter will be its last was two years in the making. When Showtime gave the veteran drama a two-year renewal in 2011, the network’s entertainment president David Nevins noted that that was likely going to be the end. “We wanted to leave open the possibility for a change if something creatively came up,†Nevins said in an interview today. “Once we ended last season and did some of the creative conversations between seasons, it became clear the time was right (to end the series).†There was no point over the past two years where extending Dexter beyond Season 8 was seriously considered. And the “basic end game scenario†sketched going into Season 7, has remained pretty much intact, Nevins said. While made before Season 8 went into production, the decision was kept quiet (save for CBS Corp. CEO Les Moonves’ slip) to make the official announcement closer to the season premiere date.

Greatest show ever. My guess is his ends up doing Debra and they both her away in the end. She killed LaGuerta and he is a ... well, a serial killer. Either that or Deb ends up carrying on Dexter's legacy after he dies at the end of the season.

There is word the rumored "Spin Off" of Dexter might be a go. HBO has hired the writing team of Dexter to a long term contract.

One..Dex dies horribly

Two..Everyone Dex loves dies and he lives

Dexter finale was unbelievable. Dexter has a soul after all and what was that at the end? YOU can never kill a "Killers" instinct? DAMN.

In the end he realized he had to save Hanna and Harrison from him. I hated to see Deb die, but she would have led a tortured life with Dex.

The funny thing is he would trust a psychopath to take care of her son more so than himself, being true flesh and blood. Yeah it was rough seeing Deb die. The ending was not very "oh shit" ish and I think they could have spiced it up a bit.

Just read this..Showtime is pushing hard for a spin off from Dexter. While Hall has said he wants to move on, he has not closed the door. I have a great spin off. A truck driver , in Oregon, named Dexter is a serial killer..

Other things I have read is a new series to focus on the Miami detectives.

Dexter put Showtime on the map. Until Dexter, they were barely a premium channel, but that all changed eight years ago.

There is also a new series coming next spring called Penny Dreadful, and it stars this crazy bitch.
