Crossfire

I really don't want people to take my posts about this as being mean, evil, snarky, etc.

Not at all. We like the chatter and debate here. I personally don't want a board of yes men, I want some free thinkers.

As it pertains to coaching hires by Luck, at the college level I can only point to Holgorsen. I didnt like how that was handled at all with Bill Stewart, but at least Luck had the guts to make the change he wanted, and it did bring them a conference and BCS bowl title before the arse fell off, which I attribute to their recruiting. They live off kids from that area with a few from Florida sprinkled in. Thats not going to consistently beat southern talent and speed.

Steve Patterson, imo could be a dark horse bc he has a lot of Texas ties and has a pretty decent resume. Currently the AD at ASU, he has hired some decent coaches. Someone, imo that should at least get a backdoor interview, maybe more.

That guys name keeps coming up repeatedly when folks talk, but never from the guys who are in the know about this search. He honestly does not sound that bad.

Patterson is definitely a name in the conversation.

Patterson recently signed an extension, and while this in itself doesn't rule him out, it seems to discourage the idea considering he knew the UT AD job was going to be open when he penned the extension

It's going to be Luck guys, which is a good think because he knows Saban very well

McPhaul, glad to see you posting here. I followed your threads on OB and have always appreciated you postings.

Mack isn't going to tarnish his legacy by having an ugly exit. His legacy will be as not only how he handles himself while coach, but also by his involvement with the program after he left the sidelines. Darrell was sent to the wilderness for 20 years after he retired from coaching. Mack will be the first former coach we have truly embraced as a part of the program after he quit coaching. (Don't forget it was Mack who brought Darrell back as part of the program).

I don't question wonder whether Mack is leaving. I just wonder what sendoff the team will give him. The final minutes of the bowl game this year will be memorable.

TCU and Kansas should get us to 6-6. God this place is going to f'ing meltdown if they crap the bed in Ft Worth.

Maybe a Mack announcement after we lose will put a smile to all of our faces.......with maybe more smiles to follow.
