Crossfire with McPhaul - 12/19/2013

Why is malzahn not a serious candidate? That can't be from our end can it ?

He's about to take auburn to the national championship for the second time, won state championships with two different schools, won conference championships at two different schools and 100% of the time as head coach. And he's young enough to be here for the long haul.

How is he not a serious candidate ?????????

It's only vindictive if Mack didn't think he was the right man for the job. IMO he always believed he could get the job done. He never quit believing. He seemed confused that others would try to keep him from finishing the job.

Now, I could be wrong about this but you have to admire a man that fights for what he believes in.

As for Powers, I don't think he's fatally wounded or even severely wounded. I'd be shocked if he doesn't finish out 2014 if not the '14-'15 school year. I don't think he ever planned to be here any longer than that anyway.

He didn't chain himself to Mack. They weren't even that close. Powers has been very good for the University and Mack was very good for the University (above and beyond the AD). Powers really appreciated that. It made his job a lot easier.

Now that Mack is gone, I really hope we can all move on. The anger and negativity surrounding the program has served a purpose. It remains to be seen if the long term outcome is positive. We all need to pull together to make it so.

Thanks McPhaul, I like everyone else truly enjoy and look forward to your Crossfire. Blessing to you and your family and Merry Christmas.

Wish we would re-evaluate the need to pull the coach in so many non-football directions.

Powers may survive but if he intentionally sabotaged the Saban deal, he should be fired for insubordination. He works for the BOR, they don't work for him. Since Hicks and others have saved his a$$ from Rick Perry's guys then it wouldn't be smart to go against them. Since he is planning to retire in about a year, I would accelerate his retirement and boot him out the door today.

Maybe if he agrees to not meddle in athletics at all and focus only on academics that may be OK. Of course the damage is done.

Good stuff McPhaul. I believe after time Mac will be welcomed back into the Longhorn family with open arms and great fanfare. Time heals all wounds.

As always great job and good stuff Darrell. Thanks and Merry Christmas to you and yours. HOOKEM!

From McPhaul: "Powers had his own issues with the Sexton/Saban and BMD’s that met last January behind his back. Powers looked at those lines of communication as undermining his credibility/authority as President as well as actions that were against the University’s by-laws"

I wonder how much longer Powers wants to deal with the drama...going against Perry's cronies and the Sexton/Regent meeting have been PR disasters.

Good read.

Although incredibly regrettable, I believe it would be wise to move onfrom Saban. I feel sure he's seen enough of this circus to realize that it's tough gig.

Thanks for the information and insight, McPhaul

Hope you and your family have a great Christmas and Holiday Season!

Great as always. Thank you sir, for your time and effort. Hope you and your family (and everyone else) have a wonderful Christmas!
