Crossfire with McPhaul - 03/26/2014

I am sure it was either sarcasm and/or hyperbole. Mack obviously is no thief.
Pretty sure it was neither. The irony is, if you connect the dots with the BMDs, Mack was raising his own salary. From a financial perspective, Mack and Deloss had a good run and yielded a good ROI for our school. At the end regarding wins and titles, not so much.

You may be right. The financial success at Texas during Dodds/Brown is inarguable. The title was the pinnacle and they deserve their fair share of the credit for that. I think it comes down to the expectation that Longhorn nation expects to be competing every year for conference championships and now to make the 4 team playoff. I am very excited about Coach Strong. However, I realize that expectations are extremely high and that he must yield results almost immediately. Is it fair? I don't know. But I believe Strong must win from year one and show that this thing is headed towards championships.

I think Strong will get a little bit of a pass for 2014, but expectations will increase. I've seen projections for 2014 anywhere from Undefeated (doclonghorn) to 7 - 5 (ESPN?). A lot of unknowns going into the season.

Q) How are verbal commits going to be handled under Strong? Seems we have 60 - 70 offers out. Does the recruit have to visit in person...bring parents? Whoever verbals first gets the spot?A) I myself have raised this question and this is what I have been told. We have all heard of the term soft commit. Well, we can now get used to hearing the term soft offer. Not all the recruits’ situations will be handled in the same manner. Some the recruits have been asked to participate in camps so the staff can get an up-close evaluation. Other recruits have been told that the staff will attend their games to evaluate them in action against competition.

And last but, not least, others have been told that we will follow their academic standing & off-field issues.

Jeff Howe has an interesting take on recruiting...you can skip to the 69:00 mark or so.

"Charlie Strong wants to call at least 5 recruits per day". Strong seems to use metrics to measure program accountability.

I think your guy has things backwards with Lville and OU. OU I thought was a HUGE champion of Lville because OU's school president David Boren is really good friends with Kentucky Mitch McConnell. I thought OU lobbied for Lville but UT wanted WVU.

Do we know if UL's AD, Tom Jurich, has signed the ACC "grant of rights" with the punitive $50M buy-out? I assume so, but why are they making inquiries to the Big 12 already? I would love to see us add UL and a FL school, FSU or UCF, to get back to 12!
I think it was probably just a "feeling out thing" in lieu of the Maryland decision and for Louisville to pre-empt a Big 12 search elsewhere, if the decision went Marylands way. Very smart on their part.
