Congratulations to Augie!

I know y'all are not going to like this. But it's time to retire before Augie tanks and the fans will only remember him for the bad seasons he has had and not the great things he has done in his career. My friends y'all have a great week.
if he misses the NCAAs a third straight year, he shouldn't be given an option. that seems unlikely at this point, but for the love of GOD, can we win a conference series this weekend !!!

I am not sure how Augie could "tank." He will coach as he always has, and that has worked for close to 2000 wins. Texas fans as a general rule always are a "what have you done for me lately" crowd. He knows that well, and I'll bet no one has to tell him it is time to leave.

really no different from most high-expectation type programs is it?

beats me. I have never been a part of any other program. HS baseball fans in Brenham, Texas expect a State Championship every year. I thought that was crazy too.

i hear ya'. i suspect the expectations of ut baseball fans aren't much different than kentucky hoops fans or bama football fans or even our own football fans. such is the price of successful high-profile programs. i'd add as a lifelong houston pro fan, i have no such expectations.
i don't expect a cws title every year, or even a trip to omaha every year (despite the fact we've played in about half of all of them). conversely i don't expect to miss the entire tournament or finish last in the conference either. lot of ball to be played. looking forward to a good rest of the season.

Reading the first few replies on this thread made me think I was mistakenly on TOS.

I just posted this on Facebook and it's worth repeating here....

"I had the good fortune of getting to know Coach Garrido through work. I learned more about baseball in those 2 years than you can imagine. The interesting thing is, while I didn't recognize it then, now I see that he was talking about life. Fascinating man that passed another milestone last night."

I think any good coach--and I immodestly consider myself to have been one--hopes that his players get more lessons than merely the game from the relationship.
