West Virginia rolls into Austin with a shining 7-1 record. They have had success because they've improved this year on defense and haven't made very many mistakes on offense. They run and pass well. They defend the run well. This isn't your average West Virginia team.

Texas will need to play inspired football to come away with a win. And that's very possible as we see small doses of improvement each week and perhaps the challenge of WV brings about some breakout performances. We'll see.

I like the fact that the Horns get this one at home, where we seemingly play a notch higher than on the road. And we get them in a morning game, after a long trip from coal country.

IMO, this comes down to the Texas defense. Can it stop West Virginia and force some three-and-outs? Can they create turnovers on an offense that hasn't turned the ball over much all season?

I say yes.

Texas 41

West Virginia 33

I might look silly for saying this by Saturday afternoon, but I haven't seen anything that makes me think WVU is some unbeatable force. Out of conference, they beat Missouri by 15 (Mizzou's only 2 wins have been against Eastern Michigan and Delaware State), then beat BYU and Youngstown State. In conference, they nearly lost to KSU in Morgantown, beat TCU/TTU/KU handily (10-17 combined record), and lost to OkSt by about the same margin we did (although now Bedford's not in charge of the defense, thankfully). So, I think we're about evenly matched. Since we're playing in Austin, I give us the advantage.

Texas: 34

WVU: 24

I think WVU is a much better team than many realize and they have the advantage of an experienced QB who is playing very well this year. Their defense is quick and very solid so the run game may struggle more as they will force our young QB and the OC to beat them by throwing the ball. Of all the remaining games we have to play this is the one that I think we do lose.  WVU 38  Texas 24 .

Horns run on the field mostly freshmen and sophomores...  The Mountaineers are one of the most veteran teams in FBS football. An amazing 20 of 22 starters are 4th or 5th year players. They have 14 senior starters overall and 10 of them are 5th year players. This is a rare level of experience for any FBS program...

UT has played better at DKR than on the road, so add some points to Horns and subtract a few from WVU for home field advantage. Hopefully, students will rally to the cause and set aside studying for a few hours to enter the stadium and attend the game.  Perhaps the Trump protesters will stop blocking roads / bridges for a few hours and join in with some type of rhythmic football victory chant.

This is a critical game for Horns to demonstrate if "real" improvement has been achieved over the past several weeks.  I'm hesitant to predict a final score.   WVU is a good team, but I believe IF Horns finally put together a complete game...offense, defense and special teams, we will be happy with the game's outcome.  Hook 'em.

I agree.

Prognostication:

  • Another home game.... we play well at home.
  • Defense is playing better, team is gaining confidence.
  • Offense runs wild but does a few head scratching things.
  • Coin flip executed flawlessly.
  • Clock management leaves our head's spinning.

Texas wins; all is well.... Charlie gest some sleep:

Texas 35
WVU 24

Sorry for the plagiarism utb040713, it just sounded right.

This game is definitely winnable. Wouldn't have said that after the KSU game.

WVA is a solid, good team but is not a great team by any stretch of the imagination. Defense seems to be their strength as they held Tech and TCU well below their usual numbers. They held Tech to just 17 points and less yards than we did.

I look for a low scoring game. Not expecting either team to hit 30 points. On a neutral field, WVA would be a slight favorite but I think it's a toss-up with us having the home field advantage.

In the end, I think WVA's experience, and defense, will make the difference. WVA 24-17.

Hate to be the one going against the horns in this one. I dont believe wv is better or more talented than the ones in burnt orange. Texas still isnt where they need to be but is moving in the right direction. WVU 35 Horns 24 couple of self inflicted wounds .

Gotta respect a flawless coin flip scenario.
