Rondale Moore made an unofficial visit to Texas for the weekend on June 17th for the Longhorns’ ‘Heat Wave’ event. He went in to Texas excited and left Texas with his expectations thoroughly surpassed.

Moore is ranked as the No. 43 wide receiver in the country and No. 1 overall prospect in Kentucky. But it’s not those numbers that jump off the page. The 5-foot-8, 174-pound speedster clocked a 4.33-forty and a 4.01-shuttle at the Opening, and he also has some bounce and showed it by nailing a 42.7” vertical, the fourth highest vertical in the nation amongst football recruits. Last season, Moore was only able to play four games; however, in those four games he recorded 20 receptions for 464 yards, grabbing 10 touchdowns, and rushed for 688 yards. That’s what you call production.

Film Analysis

Don’t let Rondale Moore get the ball in his hands because his numbers translate to the field. If you’re even he’s leaving because his speed is unmatched on the field. If the defense does let Moore in front of them, he can cut on a dime. He’ll fake left and go right before the defender even knows what to do with their feet. By the time the defense can make a move on the ball Moore is 5 yards past them. He’s going to make you miss. His speed and shiftiness allows him to step out of tackles, turn the corner on an end-around, and make killer punt returns.

He’s an effective route runner being able to go deep on the outside or cut across the inside to make a leap for the ball. He makes very clean and precise cuts on his routes and his speed just makes it much deadlier. Not to mention he shows a willingness to go up and get balls while going over the middle of the field when he knows he is probably going to get hit. When he does leap up in the air he is able to use his impressive vertical and hands to make some pretty tough catches with guys all over him.

Want to use him for blocking? Despite his size, the guy squats over 500 pounds and shows a ferocity when going to block guys a head taller than him and that is something I wasn’t expecting when I turned on his tape.

Rondale Moore has elite burst, speed, and COD ability. He is just a freak of an athlete.

Final Verdict

After years of Mack and Strong, Longhorn fans should start to come to the realization that there are guys who can play ball outside of Texas and Tom Herman is going out and finding those guys. It’s going to take some time to get used to, but Texas taking their recruiting nationally, and so far it is paying dividends.

Landing a player of Moore’s caliber and ability is a huge boon for Tom Herman’s staff and it gives them a player with home run hitting ability out of the slot. The Longhorns now have Moore and Justin Watkins in the boat for this cycle, and that is some serious playmaking ability to work with for Tom Herman and Tim Beck on the offensive side of the football. With Texas wanting to take two slots and two outside WR's this cycle, Rondale's commitment provides some clarity on the WR situation. Al'Vonte Woodard commits on the 15th and Brennan Eagles on the 17th. Texas could potentially have their WR class by the end of July.

Really excited about this kid . . . .Herman loves him some slot WRs though suspect this young man is not to be pigeon holed.

I cannot overstate how impressed I am with this young man. It seems to me that his mind is as quick as his feet-the complete package.

I wonder if he has looked into the Business Honors program at UT. I think he could hang. If a kid gets in, the program is amazing-small classes, full professors, project based learning in many classes. It is truly a great program.

One graduates with a Business Honors degree, and for those going into the workforce, rather than the NFL, starting salaries are higher than for MBA'S. Pretty amazing. Only Wharton School compares.

Hook 'em, Rondale, welcome to the 40!
