HornSports is aware that an offensive player will commit to the University of Texas tomorrow or possibly Tuesday, with tomorrow (Monday) being likely.  The announcement will come via twitter.

This is good news if it is a QB. Hopefully, it's a QB that can attract and recruit other players for the class. Although, I never read about Zack Gentry recruiting other players for this year's class. Looks like Gentry didn't make a commitment, he made a reservation.

No use in guessing, not with all the offers we have out.
OK, I’ll take a shot at it…

So, given whom the tweets are from, I suppose the deductive question is:

What player and position have 2 stud WRs been communicating with (and presumably recruiting) who would feel compelled to commit now with encouragements such as, "You know if you just get the ball any where near me, it's a catch... maybe for 6."?

So, to me reading the tea leaves leads me to believe it's a QB.

Now, I just Googled "texas 2016 QB offer" in "Google news" with a 24 hour filter… and the ONLY article that popped up is an article by Will Wilkerson of HD on last week's offer to Texas Tech quarterback commitment Tristen Wallace.

Reading the article I found the following…

“Speaking of family, Wallace has family ties to both Texas Tech and Texas. He’s had family graduate from TTU already and has a sister, Leilani Wallace, on track to do so at UT.
Not only is Leilani a student at Texas but she works in the football office.
“She really wants me down there,†he said. “She tells me what the coaches say about me all the time. She has a really good relationship with the coaches.â€
It’s yet to be seen exactly how much pull his sister will have in the end. Wallace has a few things he needs to see himself.
“Texas had one of the best recruiting classes in 2015,†he said. “If they can just put that together and have a true winning season and compete for a national championship, that’s really all it is. UT is a great school overall. Charlie Strong is doing a great job with that program.â€
Wallace said wherever he ends up will have to have a good graduate assistant program because he wants to coach once his playing days are over.

So, from the article we now know:
  • Tristen Wallace’s sister is a current UT student that works in Charlie Strong’s football office and "has a good relationship with the coaches"
  • Tristen wants to be a coach once his playing days are over
  • This was an offer long in the works for a player that the staff had recruited since the moment they arrived in Austin
  • He also has offers from Baylor, Houston, Indiana, Kansas State, Nebraska, Ohio State, SMU, TCU, and UCLA

And… if we can also assume:
  • Charlie Strong & Co. would be better mentors than Kliff Kingsbury & Co. (Decent assumption, right guys)
  • Tristen’s sister has told him that there were 2015 recruits that got left out of the 2015 class because they waited (Also reasonable assumption)
  • He's pretty dang good, considering who has already offered (Urban Meyers, Art Briles, Jim Mora, etc.)

Then, FWIW (which is probably very little)… I deduce the “looming commitment†is…

Tristen Wallace, QB from DeSoto, Texas after he decommits from Texas Tech.

That's very good deductive reasoning, bill.  Good post.  I would be extremely happy if TW commits to Texas.

That would no doubt draw other great players (who play on offense) to Texas.

IF UT comes away this year with a quarterback class of Wallace and Shane Buechele, with Merrick being moved to the 2015 class, we would be in very good shape going forward at the QB position.  Wallace and Buechele both have a lot of interest in UT right now...if one commits, I don't know if that kills the interest on the part of the other, since they're not that similar as quarterbacks, but hey, it's okay to dream.
