It is being reported that Houston Eisenhower Running Back Donald "Duke" Catalon has committed to the Horns today after receiving an offer yesterday. Hearing possibilities that his high school grades are still being looked at but ooks like Duke is in fact commit #3.

Catalon is 6'0" and 200lbs and had offers from Tech and SMU.

Like a lot of you, I am a bit weirded out by these early Texas offers/commits but it is something we all need to get used to......in fact, it could be a good thing for these young men to realize they are committed to a top tier academic university and that they need to pay extra attention to their studies.

I'm with you in that I think this new paradigm on recruiting can only benefit Texas. No commitment is guaranteed until they sign on the dotted line anyways, so why not get the verbal as early as possible.

i think it very important for people to realize this. We will get more of the guys we value highly but at the same time there is a longer time till signing day and we will probably have a de-commit at some point.

Also, I saw Catalon at the Ou satellite camp in Houston. He didnt participate but was in the stands with a Mack Brown football camp shirt on. Looked good but was about 5-10/5-11 and 185-190 but wt is a bit harder to guess. Looked very good, "think thighs" for the extremely curious. I didnt check out his forearm if any aggies are wondering. His video shows that he is one of the top RBs in the nation. Very talented player!

Catalon is an important piece of the running back scenario in the next handful of years. He needs to gain a little weight before arriving but that shouldn't be a problem. Interested to see when Gresham commits but I am sure he will because his All Saints teammate Demetrius Knox is evidently a STRONG Texas lean. Bergeron and Brown will be seniors when Catalon arrives and J. Gray will be NFL eligible. These running back recruits, including Kyle Hicks are not to be taken lightly.

I'm thrilled with all those offered but I refuse to believe wasting a scholly on a FB is smart. Unless he's DD Lewis and gets moved to MLB and sets a record for games started at Texas. But otherwise not necessary. HookEm.

I hear you about the FB position not being a sexy scholarship. Gresham is a hybrid RB/FB though. T think his offer can easily be justified.

Depending on the offense you run i completely disagree. If you want a downhill power running game you need a very good FB. Yes you can get a someone to walk-on but not someone as talented as Gresham or Ricky Brown. FB that can create a hole and be a threat in the passing game and can run the ball on 3rd and 2 and can help pass block. Good FBs that are going to be used (not in Mike Leach's system or the teams that exclusively run the zone read) and deserve a ship.
