According to a story published by Fox Sports the NFL still rates number one among fans sports. The NFL, which has polled first for three decades, is comfortably ahead of MLB, which used to be top dog for many years. Our beloved CFB is a solid 3rd. I think the % broke something like NFL 30%, MLB 14% and CFB 11%.

Sorry, I didn't post the link.

My question for HS Nation is what's your top 5?

I'll go with

1) CFB

2) HSFB

3) College Baseball

4) MLB

5) NFL

I'd close with a question seeking the opinion of our neighborhood. Do any of you believe CFB moves past MLB in popularity in the next few years with the pending playoffs?

Thanks in advance for participating! :)

In come parts of the country, baseball has been eclipsed by college football. In Houston, for example, the Atsors ore a non-entity. Comcast Sports has the contract to broadcast their games, but Comcast can't get major cable companies to carry the game for a very simple reason. Time-Warner did a survey and found hardly any of their subscribers watched 3 or more Astros games each year. In areas like Alabama, Louisiana, Mississippi, Kentucky and Tennessee college football is much bigger than MLB because the only team in the region is Atlanta. In cities like NYC, Boston and Chicago, MLB is much more popular than college football because none of those states have individual large, state universities with a sizable fan base.

In short, CFB may be bigger than MLB in some corners of the world, but not all.

1. CFB(Texas, of course)

2. English Premier League(Manchester City)

3. College Basketball(Texas, again)

4. NBA(No teams really, Just a fan in general+keep up with former horns)

5. Serie A(AS Roma and AC Milan)

Not really a fan of Pro Football and don't follow HS Football outside of looking at highlights of Texas' recruits. Recently the EPL has been pushing CFB a little but I don't foresee it taking over the #1 spot anytime soon. I don't know if The Champions League would count but that would be my #4 and push 4 and 5 down a notch.

1.) College Football

2.) Texas College sports in general: Baseball, Basketball, Track, Swimming and anything else that Texas is playing at the time. I enjoy watching all sports and like to se new things.

3.) Adrenaline and Endurance sports/Crossfit

4.) Gymnastics and Olympic Sports

5.) MLB

I hate the NFL and everything that it stands for. I haven't intently watched an entire NFL game since the Oilers left. I want to like the Cowboys, but I just can't because of JJ. I absolutely despise that jerk. I like the play of the 49ers and the Seahawks, but it is hard to follow them since they aren't ever on here in Texas.

College Football

College Basketball

College Baseball

NFL

That is it in my part of the world.

I don't think CFB will get past America's pastime at any point in the next 20 years even with the playoffs. And the NFL is obv forever out of reach. Almost all CFB fans become NFL fans as the kids move up, but the reverse happens far less.

-CFB

-MLB

-NFL

-HSFB

-NHL

-CFL (yes Canadian)

-College Basketball (basically just the tourney and the odd Texas game when they inexplicably catch fire!)

1-COLLEGE FOOTBALL

2-NFL

3-COLLEGE BASKETBALL

4-NBA

5-CRICKET (I may be the only one with this one)

I ***think*** that FBS football is considered the world's top sport in terms of number of spectators actually attending games. It easily beats soccer and the NFL. The sheer size of many of the university stadia and the large number of schools in div 1 guarantee this.

I saw this article too and was a little surprised by it. But in thinking about it, if I recall correctly, the poll asked people what their favorite sport was, not to rank their favorite sports like was done here. So while CFB was third in the poll initially, I think there would be a completely different result if the pollster asked people to rank their favorite sports, 1-5. I can see there being a LOT of people, like myself, who would say either CFB or the NFL was their favorite sport in a poll like the existing poll, but in a ranking type poll would list them both as first and second or the reverse, but both ahead of the other sports. For that matter, there might be a lot of people that ranked MLB, NASCAR or NBA first in the Fox poll, but would put CFB second...
