Coaching Changes, Rumors, Misc.

Good ole Lane.

Ole Miss is hiring former Maryland coach D.J. Durkin as an assistant coach, multiple sources told Yahoo Sports.

This is Durkin’s first full-time job since his suspension, reinstatement and then subsequent firing without cause from Maryland in 2018. Durkin’s firing came in October 2018 in the aftermath of the death of Jordan McNair, who passed away from heatstroke in June 2018.

Kerry Coombs szn
Oh please sweet baby Jesus, let it be lol

Except, he's a secondary coach. Ash handles the secondary in his defense (unless he's changing that)

If it's Coombs we may have competition with Ohio State and they may want him for DC.

Would Kerry Coombs, 57, be willing to leave the NFL to return to Ohio State? Perhaps, if he was given play-calling responsibilities and a nice pay bump.

The energetic Coombs was the Buckeyes' DB coach from 2012-17, where he was quite the fan favorite. He is very happy with the Titans, but he might want the opportunity to call a defense (along with current OSU DC Greg Mattison).

Coombs is an Ohio guy (longtime head coach at Cincinnati Colerain, then the DB coach for the Cincinnati Bearcats) and did an excellent job during his time at Ohio State, so he is without question an intriguing possibility

. However, we have heard that Day will also be very interested in scouring the NFL for the best secondary coach he can find there, so we will see how it pans out.

There is a strong sense among various executives involved in ongoing NFL coaching searches that Matt Rhule is either the next coach of the Giants or staying at Baylor. The Panthers definitely want an audience with him if possible, and the Cowboyssurely will too once they get around to letting go of Jason Garrett, but it just may be the Giants or nothing.
