Coaching Changes, Rumors, Misc.

I don't think we would wait on someone unless they are in the playoff.  We're missing critical recruiting time to wait on some guy to coach in the Peach Bowl.
I hear you..... but we have finished with the following recruiting rankings:

3 - 3 - 11 (with about 4 more slots to fill).  Probably 3 top 10 classes when all’s said and done.  All but 1 of the remaining will likely be defense.

It would be worth it to forfeit an entire class to get hands on coaches to Austin who can develop talent. Recruiting is not the problem and wasn’t the problem under Strong either.

These hires will decide CTH’s job status and starting over with a new regime is not what we need.

So I agree on the recruiting front - but am cool with this taking up to May if it means getting the right guy.

Technically with replacing 80% of our coaching staff this year we are starting over

True.  Quasi starting over.   The ideal would be for Herman to be successful.   We’ll know all we need to know at this time next year whether or not that is a possibility.

The point is recruiting is not the problem.  The #1 problem is player development.  Not recruiting, not play calling, not going for it on fourth down. The #1 problem is player development and the assistant coaches on staff play a HUGE part in this.

I think I’m officially in the Applewhite for OC fan club, the more I think about it the more I like it. He’s a good playcaller and solid recruiter and he has head coaching experience and he loves Texas.

Strong recruited well until the last year, when it cratered. Along with setting all time records for losing, the collapse of recruiting was the final nail in that coffin. That's the clearest and most telling sign a coach has failed or missed his window.

For all the issues we've had, Herman has continued to recruit well. As long as the recruiting pipeline continues to flow then it's not a lost cause.

Interesting take. I think it’s a pretty hopeless feeling to consistently reel in top 10 classes and it never manifests itself to performance on the field.

But we agree recruiting is vital.

IF lashee is the candidate, we should know pretty soon.  Applewhite is basically unemployed.  If he was the candidate why hasn’t he already been announced?

I’d be good with Lashlee. Came up under Malzhan that runs a great offense

I think this is gonna go until January because it could be Yurcich, but good point on Applewhite

In other news hell has frozen over.

I won't be in that fan club. He's been OC here before. It ended with Mack Brown getting fired and an affair scandal that hurt The University.

I'll pass.
