As Mack Brown steps down at Texas, one huge name on the wish list for AD Steve Patterson is Eagles coach Chip Kelly. (via @mortreport)

Don't want that dirty bastard anywhere near the Texas program.

Can't happen until late 2014. Chip Kelly had an 18 month NCAA show cause order placed on him by the NCAA in June 2013.

It looks like UT could work around that, but I don't see Powers approving Kelly

Report: Chip Kelly 'prominent' on Texas list, coach 'laughed off' rumors

After a week of ridiculous back-and-forth speculation, Mack Brown is finally out at Texas, resigning from his position as Longhorns head coach on Saturday night. Brown's departure means we can crank the rumor mill dial to "Full-Blown Rampant" and start getting weird with things.

49ers coach Jim Harbaugh and Steelers coach Mike Tomlin were already bandied about as possible replacements. Add the Eagles Chip Kelly to the list of speculative names too. ESPN's Chris Mortensen reported Sunday that Kelly is "prominent" on the Texas coaching wish list.

"League sources say Chip Kelly is prominent on the new list of new Longhorns AD Steve Patterson, who's heard that Kelly misses some aspects of the college football game," Mortensen said. "If Kelly is interested, an NCAA expert believes that the 18-month show cause for sanctions at Oregon was more like a slap on the wrist and was not a major hurdle."

Kelly wouldn't comment on Mortensen report, but a team spokesman told Mort that Kelly "laughed it off" when he was told that his name was on the list.

In the world of coaching rumors you can never say never, and Texas has a lot money. But at the moment Kelly's Eagles are in the catbird seat in the NFC East and are playing exceptionally well on both sides of the ball.

If he keeps winning in Philly it'll be difficult to persuade him to head elsewhere.

bingo!!!!!!

I fear in the end we'll end up like Mich an ND. Storied programs who thought they could get anyone they wanted. Mich couldn't even get Harbaugh to take a look, and he graduated from there. I'm afraid the ramifications of missing on Saban have yet to be felt. I really hope I'm wrong.
