Imagine my surprise when I learned first hand from close friends of David Ash that he had virtually no relationship with Mack Brown! For the record I'll forever be a fan of MB and what he did for Texas football. That said, I have a lot of heartburn over dispassionate play, uninspired players and a general attitude of entitlement displayed by the last few teams. The detachment showed itself on the field.

In an era when the QB can quickly turn around a team (witness the resurrected Sooner nation) I'm hoping for more of a hands-on, involved leader who is more personally engaged with critical players. Trick is finding the right mix of the CEO of Longhorn Football Inc and an engaged leader in the trenches. If SP wants to earn his check, he should assume some of those duties. Even the NFL gets the importance of the direct line of communication between QB and HC.

Who on the short list can handle both levels?

P.S. I'm unimpressed with the short list approach -- it's feels like we're shooting behind the deer. Guess it's safer and easier to be lazy and lean on the Bevo bucks while letting others prove out our candidates.

I could be wrong, but don't believe it was always like that. I think MB just outsourced too much over the years.

bobby bowden and Pete Carroll were CEO types. . .I want a good coach. . .if he is one to take the "overview" and let his CO's handle it. . .fine. . .if he's Nick Saban . ..fine too. .

I lean defense but again. . .doesn't matter. . .we get too wrapped up in CEO vs X's and O's. . ..trust me. . .Mack knows X's and O's better than anyone on this board. . but Mack is gone. . .

Just win baby!!!!!
