Casting Call for Freddie Steinmark Movie

Freddie Steinmark is a UT Legend.

Do yourself a favor and read Courage Beyond The Game. It's about him and the 1969 National Title team.

Freddie's picture adorns the south end zone entryway to the field. Players pay tribute to him as they enter the field. Standout DB who played part of the 1969 season with pain from undiagnosed bone cancer in his leg, had leg amputated and cheered the team on using crutches for the rest of the season. He succumbed to the cancer shortly after the season.

Awww, that is so sad.  Tears developing.

I only know of James Brown and forward.........

I know, not much of a Texas Football history buff. I'm a young one.
I wonder who will play James Brown in the epic movie entitled 4th and 5? Jamie Foxx, will smith, possibly even James Brown himself! That was an awesome end to that season!

I thought James Brown was 4th and inches and Vince Young was 4th and 5.

Honestly growing up, I watched more BIG TEN football games than Texas games because it aired on ESPN when I got home from Chinese school on Saturdays.  I didn't follow Texas football until Freshman year in HS.  That's why I'm also a huge Michigan fan.

I knew I had that wrong when I typed it, but ran with it anyways. Hate it when a joke unravels! I will cross reference my quoted stats better in the future!

I just finished reading Courage Beyond the Game about three months ago.  Outstanding read.  Freddie grew up Catholic in Colorado.  Notre Dame was his favorite team growing up, but Ara Parsegian later said he didn't even remember seeing his high school film.  His leg was amputated soon after the 1969 Texas/Arkansas game, yet he insisted on attending the Texas/Notre Dame Cotton Bowl, standing on the sideline on crutches.  He was awarded the game ball, which his mother kept in his room for many years afterwards. Freddie died a couple of months after the Cotton Bowl.

Would make for an interesting casting call ad.

Like they must have done for this guy
