Small schools are notorious for recruiting. You don't think Celina doesn't recruit? From where did Gilmer "recruit" players and how?
I've been to Gilmer and can't say there's much to entice somebody to move there. Do they have open enrollment?
I'm familiar with the Dallas ISD scandals of kids going to school outside their attendance zones to boost the hoops programs at Madison and Kimball. I've also heard rumors about Johnathan Gray's dad gaining employment in Aledo from North Crowley. Hell, Shawn Robinson's parents were hired at Denton Guyer as coaches, too, for the same reasons. Private schools, such as Ft. Worth All Saints and Bishop Dunne, offer scholarships to underprivileged kids who happen to be great athletes.Small schools are notorious for recruiting. Hell, I know the guy that moved people into Melissa and gave them a place to live and they won state a few years ago.
Celina and Pilot Point were notorious for recruiting, especially under a certain former coach. Who later coached at Sherman and conveniently hired Jason Burleson's dad as an assistant coach. You may remember Jason as he played tight end at Texas.
I don't know if Kinne was the first, but his transfer to Gilmer for his senior season in 2006 was probably the mostIf I recall, GJ Kinne was the first
Need we bring up Friday Night Lights - Odessa Permian? How about Manvel? How about magnet school, Bellaire, who was busted for recruiting to their baseball program?Small schools are notorious for recruiting. You don't think Celina doesn't recruit?

It's embarrassing IMO.The thing at Allen high school is a disgrace. They have over 6,000 kids in that school and a stadium most colleges would be proud of.
I can't believe the UIL hasn't stepped in on that rich mans playground and school enrollment.
I have a grandkid who is a senior at Sherman HS. Kinne wasn't exactly popular, especially with parents who had kids playing other sports. To Kinne, who was also AD, football was the only sport that mattered.Manvel is a part of Alvin ISD and zoning for Manvel HS includes a number of unincorporated cities zoned to attend Manvel HS as well as a portion of Pearland, just west of Hwy 288. Manvel is a town of just over 5,000 people, but with Alvin ISD having its zoning contain a portion of Pearland and cities referenced above, Manvel is 6A. That will change due to Shadow Creek HS opening next year (9th and 10th), which is located in the growing area of Pearland, west of 288. Manvel isn't recruiting, really don't have to (until next year).
Have to disagree with "Kinne" being a nice guy comment. Any HS coach who gets thrown out of a pee wee football game, as a fan, in Mesquite while coaching at Sherman is an idiot. He certainly brought a few kids in at Sherman and it was working until he and the powers to be had a falling out.
You can say that about most high school ADs who double as the football coach.I have a grandkid who is a senior at Sherman HS. Kinne wasn't exactly popular, especially with parents who had kids playing other sports. To Kinne, who was also AD, football was the only sport that mattered.
We'll have to just agree to disagree about Manvel. Particularly since it's football team has a documented 17 D-1 prospects on it. The math simply doesn't work out and coincidence doesn't enter into it. Pearland HS was in the playoffs this year and last year and you can count on one hand the number of D-1 players it had combined. Hell, you can do that for every year Pearland has been in the playoffs - including its state championship.Manvel is a part of Alvin ISD and zoning for Manvel HS includes a number of unincorporated cities zoned to attend Manvel HS as well as a portion of Pearland, just west of Hwy 288. Manvel is so small it has to play it's games in the Alvin HS stadium, because it doesn't even have one.
I'm betting Shadow Creek won't make a dent in Manvel's quality of players.
What are the odds?
