If so, Texas isn't as great a job as the hype leads us to believe or Patterson just couldn't deliver a proven big time coach. Strong is at Louisville of all places. Coming off what Mack and Dodds got us back too this is not a get your attention / we are the Joneses hire. $, LHN, 4 BCS wins, MNC, play for another one, and we are hiring a guy from Louisville. Wins were padded by the Indy schedule.

Briles didn't want to go through with the interview process. I think that Patterson thought he could give Saban some time to think the offer over but the Miami job opened and Strong had leverage. With the Saban camp not making the call Patterson might miss on not only the big name guys but also his top choice not named Saban, Harbaugh or Fisher.

What if his interview was enough to convince Patterson? Apparently he had strong staff ready to take over.... we are going to simply give it some time... if you truly love Texas you will have to have a little faith before you burn Belmont down.....

Absolutely, these guys whining about Strong would have killed for him this season. Remember, we need a football coach to change the culture and entitlement. Perhaps that entitlement has bled over into some of our fans and only a NC hire will do

This part is true.
My problem is with Patterson. IMHLO, he did not fulfill his duties of due diligence by quickly focusing on Strong before he ever spoke face to face with Fisher and Harbaugh. And possibly even Malzahn and Meyer. He had a duty to explore all options.
