Board rules

First rule is there are no rules.
No, seriously, if posters will treat each other with respect, a lot of rules shouldn't be necessary, though, of course, some guidelines for posting are needed.
There should be one unbreakable rule: Each member should be respectful of other members.

To disagree is not disrespect.

To have an unpopular opinion is not disrespect.

To take a dig at someone for their opinions can be uncomfortable but as long as it is not personal I do not think it is disrespect. Sometimes we get too serious about an opinion and someone breaks our balls a little bit just to let us know to simmer down and get off the soap box.

To make a personal issue out of a disagreement in opinion quickly regresses to disrespect.

I don't know how to codify it but like the Supreme Court Justice said regarding hard-core porno, "I know it when I see it". I feel the same way about personal attacks.

I appreciate the owners, partners, mods at HS for allowing dissenting opinions. I have often heard members of this board referred to as McPhaulbots by many newcomers but I think I have seen more direct and negative posts directed towards him than any other participant here as well. It appears that one can only be banned when they bring a personal agenda and make numerous personal attacks.

Doing great HS and I am sure you will not overregulate when it comes to board rules. The culture here will govern itself and only the very few need to be banned.

I am of the opinion that banning should be the very last resort, except for trolls, and they can be spotted quickly.

Agreed

Time-outs are funny though. Kind of like double, secret probation.

I'm a big fan of free speech. I'd suggest no rules.
Look what free speech did to OB's. Most of us are here because we are sick and tired of those that use free speech as a way to criticize others in a cowardly manner.

Respectful opinions are encourage but, you are not here to speak in any manner you may feel free to.

I have never seen anyone get banned that did not ask for it. I have faith that most of the members on this board know when they are crossing that line.

Free speech means you can say anything you want to say anywhere about anything. It also means that somebody might bust you in the nose for doing so.

I am not encouraging violence. I am pointing out that free speech does not exist in a vacuum. There are consequences.

The key here is that the entire staff/mods have one voice in dealing with board issues. If someone is warned, then it's expressed and that's it. You don't need numerous other posts by other staff/mods sharing their personal opinions that may not be exactly the same. If you disagree you do it privately.

1) Please contribute to the discussion and post your opinion on the topic.

2) Be respectful to others. Don't pick a fight and personally bash another poster.

3) Don't publicly trash the mods. I find it distasteful and disrespectful to those who put the time, money, and effort to make this a place for us to congregate. If you don't like the scene, find the door and walk through it.

Dont' talk with your mouth full. That's an important one.

Im going to jail......

But seriously, I think less is more when it comes to "rules". We're all somewhat adults here. When something goes overboard, you'll know.

Let's do demerits. I ruled 2nd grade in Mrs. Watkins class in demerits. Second wasn't even close.

No more slamming of Orangebloods. It's a daily trend in here repeatedly by certain posters. I like this site, but the constant pumping of itself by knocking Ketch & Co are just childish. Be better by just acting better.

I believe we should have basic guidelines but I do think it's pretty simple just treat people with repect however when people post and they are challenged on that post they get defensive because they are passionate about what they had to say. So basically I mind define a reply as ok while others feel it was over the top. It's a fine line for sure.

I disagree with your stupid post. Distasteful but not disrespectful.

I disagree with your post, stupid. Personal and disrespectful.
