BS, GBT,
In high school or college the best teams are those that are top heavy with Juniors and Seniors. You remind me of the announcer for the Ag game I watched for a few this evening. Not certain, but I think it was Dave South, renowned College Station announcer. He was trying to sell the quality of the Ags this year. Clueless. Long on opinions and extremely short on expertise. Are you related by any chance?
Don't remember the exact score, but I think Vandy trounced the Ags 12 - 5. Sure they would welcome your assistance. Yep, representin'.
Seriously...you are talking Aggy vs Vandy ??? You do realize TCU got whipped by Baylor and Tech. Rice got bounced. These are tourney games, where the top teams really don't give a crap. They just want to save their pitching for the real tourney. If they win good if not so what. Augie and our players all but admitted that in years past when we were shoe-ins. Sure they play to win, but its not like their backs are against the wall. I think everyone understands that.
In football and basketball teams heavy in Jr and Sr usually dominate, and yes experience is huge; but in baseball talent rises to the top whether they are Frosh, Soph, Jr , or Sr.
Experience has its value. In football the OL and secondary age ( experience)matters a great deal, but skill positions, its talent that is the main cog. Baseball falls into that category. Its about skill for the most part. True that player with the skill obviously does get better with experience and growth. That is never denied. Our problem is the majority of our hitters don't seem to get much better from Fr to Jr/Sr...Actually some get worse.
My point is you have to get the talent and then develop it. We haven't been doing that very well lately....at least not like we have back 10 years ago, especially at the plate.
Im pumped that we have seemingly hit our stride and are making a run in this tourney. Reality is we have beaten Tech once and Baylor twice. Not exactly juggernauts . Our complete games by our pitchers were outstanding. Our clutch hitting by a few of our guys was awesome no matter who the opponent.Don't get me wrong, I am thrilled we are doing this, but before we annoint Augie as having his old swagger back. We need to beat OSU,and make another great run, then he will have earned his money after a disappointing regular season....Because it was disappointing ( and pitching wasn't the problem ). Texas should be hosting a regional nearly ever year like LSU and others do.....yet here we sit struggling just to get into the tourney yet again.
Hopefully the baseball gods will allow a break in the weather and we can take the Cowboys down and win some hardware.
