Big 12 Expansion Project

Lots of people making the argument that the conference needs to expand so we can get a conference championship game. I really don't see why. Nobody in this conference would benefit from a CCG (people always bring up the year TCU and Baylor were co-champs but we play everyone in the conference, why Bowlsby allowed co-champs in a format like that is outrageous but that's a story for another day) and it certainly isn't needed to get into the playoff. CCG didn't push Stanford over Oklahoma. When was the last year we had 4 undefeated teams in the NCAA? Go undefeated in the big conferences (SEC, Pac 12. Big 10, Big 12) and you're in.

I'm just surprised at how many Longhorn fans want expansion. We have the LHN, a great conference setup, two blue bloods, and 6 to 7 teams that constantly get national attention. Do we really want to jeopardize it?

Very well said and I agree. Especially when you consider what there is to choose from in terms of expansion.

Bowlsby got cute. He thought maybe the Big12 could get both BU and TCU in the playoffs as co-champions. Easy to bash his decision in hindsight, but he'd be a hero if it worked.

Now he knows the TV draws like Ohio State will win the tiebreakers. Yeah, he should've known that already.

I completely disagree with that writer's stance. Why water down the conference now when it would still be top tier of the Group of 5 if some schools didn't find new P5 homes?

Texas, OU, and KU don't have to worry.

OSU and Tech appear to be locks for the Pac-XX if the other 3 left.

WVU would make a great case for the SEC or ACC.

KSU would make a great case for the SEC, and a potential case for the Pac-XX.

ISU is similar to KSU.

Baylor and TCU are the programs that need to worry. Small fan bases and religious schools are knocks against them, no matter how good the facilities and programs are. The ACC is really their only P5 option, but UH could replace both in the path to all 4 big public Texas schools being in the P5 and the 4 private schools being in the Group of 5.

Texas, OU to SEC: KU and Mizzou probably go to Big Ten. WVU joins SEC. ISU, KSU, Tech, OSU go to Pac-16. Baylor and TCU are left to work something out with the ACC.

Texas, OU to Big Ten: KU and WVU to SEC. ISU, KSU, Tech, OSU to Pac-16. TCU and Baylor to ACC?

Texas, OU, Tech, OSU to Pac-16: KU and Mizzou to SEC or Big Ten. If SEC, Big Ten could add KSU and ISU or just hold off. If Big Ten, ISU and KSU will likely join the SEC. WVU is SEC all the way. Baylor and TCU would still be left out.

The twitter world seems to think the big 12 will expand. I would like to see the possible schools. It could be a fun summer!

Put West Virginia, Iowa State, Kansas, Kansas State, Memphis and Cincinnati in the north the rest make up the south and call it a day.

That more or less guarantees that the Big 12 North will never win another Big 12 Championship.

Pac-16 East with  Arizona, Arizona State,Colorado,Utah,Texas, Texas Tech,Oklahoma and Oklahoma state sounds way better than this garbage.

and that is different from the original big 12 how?

I think he's suggesting that's whats wrong with it. The problem the Big 12 had with the north-south set up was that the conference title game was pretty much an exhibition game because the south was so strong and the north was so weak. It became disinteresting, except for when Texas was concerned. Some people were bored with 70-0 over Colorado. lol. I wasn't.
