This was really a no-brainer for the Big12.

$30M in additional revenue, 13th data point for CFB Playoff committee, added excitement and eyeballs in December when it counts.

Divisional alignment doesn't matter as much if we continue playing a round robin.

The most difficult road to the playoff, 9 game round robin schedule, CCG and power five requirement...

Reading other sites and I really can't figure why people are all upset about this.

A Conference Championship game is the equivalent of the first round of the playoffs.

And so what if the two teams have already played in the regular season. It's a freaking playoff game! Lose and you're out. Win and you'll probably move on.

With a conference championship game, it now becomes a scenario where the championship committee will choose 4 teams from the five power conference champions and Notre Dame, when they are good enough to be considered, with an occasional wild-card thrown in.

Divisional alignment only matters from a standpoint of "balanced" divisions. If one division was clearly stronger than the other that would be "no bueno". Texas and Oklahoma cannot be in the same division.

Agree on the division split for Texas and OU. However, would that negate our yearly grudge match with them due to the rotation of cross division games yearly? If not, we would have a harder conference schedule than most with OU on the schedule yearly. Would need that game for SOS anyways, but that would be an awkward conference schedule anomaly for two of the 10 teams in the B12. Any thoughts?

What's the point of divisions if you play everybody? Still playing a round robin is what makes it stupid. So you'll play more games outside your division than inside.

Learn from the SEC. Play 8 conf games, schedule a tomato can to pad your win total.

But money rules and I get that. From a purely football standpoint it's goofy.

It's worse than goofy.

I doubt they even have divisions. Nothing indicates as such. Maybe top 2 go to the championship?

Count me down as thinking this is dumb. How about best of 3? Maybe if the 2 teams have split after the title game they play a doubleheader to decide it.

@TheNumberMonkey shared the TV distributions for each conference. With LHN revenues, UT's is over $40M!

Try not to gloat.

2015-16 Per team Payouts:
SEC = $32.7m
Big Ten = $32.4m
Big 12 = $30.2m + Member controlled rights
ACC = ~$25.5m (ACC pays out post season unevenly, so FSU got $27m but Syracuse got $24m)
Pac 12 = 25.1m

Absolutely no divisions with round robin schedule. that is just stupid what if the best 2 teams or even 3 best teams are in same division. the top 2 teams should play again would be best way to boost final 4 chances. I think it is the only way to make a rematch worth watching unless Texas is playing. to many times 1 division is far better than other

just the one game?  twice the money if we do two.

hell, we could play two games, back to back, and switch teams for the second game and lowest score wins.

piss on this conference.  time to go.

Well, according to Dennis Dodds and most okies we can add just any teams - Moe, Curly, Larry - and realize a pro rata increase in our TV contracts. Hell, let's just go ahead and add six! Why not?
