The Weaver discovery makes a tremendous difference. Kid is very fast / athletic and hustles like nobodies business. When Disu gives us inside scoring - it makes all the difference in the world as well.
Weaver can have most of Brock’s minutes for all I care. And if we hit 40% from 3 we can beat anyone. Just hard to maintain that level.

They play 2 different positions, Brock (6-6, 210) is a forward, Weaver (6-3, 180) a guard.

Brock is 2nd on the team in rebounds and offensive boards behind Mitchell. However, I think he plays better off the bench than as a starter. That way he can come in give one of the bigs a chance to rest. Brock while having a lower FG% than Weaver is the way better 3pt shooter.

Weaver started the season a little slow but his game has shown vast improvement since. He also may be a better off the bench player than starter. He did log more mins against ou than Horton (G) who started the game.

I will say this though, I love the hustle both players show when they're in the game!

BYU is always interesting. I have PTSD from some of our football games over the years.

I watched them play the other day.... they have a guy who looks like a 7-4 couch potato. But he is effective. They are big.... play very slow and don't look to handle the ball very well.... but as odd as it may sound with that said, they are pretty good. Lost to Cougar High by 4. I think my game-plan would be to run at every opportunity.
Hopefully it can be the Dillon Mitchell show. Run it all day and get him on the fast break.

I really appreciate Rodney apologizing for the deal with the horns down. I know he was upset and got caught up in the moment. Most people wouldn’t have owned up to it and said anything. Rodney is a heck of a likable guy and good ambassador for the University of Texas. I really hope it works out with him here.
Sorry guys I can't agree with you. My coaches, whether it was Optimist league, Jr. High or HS would have chewed out anyone who disrespected the other team by mocking them. Sportsmanship has died it seems. Sadly in todays society its okay to be a dick when you win. I do agree that Terry should have gone to the other HC instead of the players.

At the half, it's BYU 44 Texas 41. The Horns started out hot, then cooled down. BYU went on a run to go up 41-31 with ~3 mins to go in the half. Texas played some tough D, came up with some steals and closed it to 42-41 until giving up a layup in the closing seconds.

BYU is owning the paint and shooting 65% from the field. Texas is shooting 51.5% from the field and 55% from 3s. We slow them down in the paint and we can pull this off. If not, it will be a long flight home.

BYU wins it 84-72. They went on a 12-2 run to open the second half and never looked back. At one time they had a 16 or 18 point lead but we were able to cut it down some. BYU shot 64% from the field and at one point in the 2nd half, they were shooting 71%+. They also owned the boards and in one possession had 3 straight offensive boards. Hard to win games when your opponent is playing like that.

So much for a short flight. Where was Weaver?
He was there. Ended up with 15 pts and 5 boards (all offensive) but his defense wasn't his best. In other words, he fit in with the rest of the team.

Forgot it was on tonight and promised my wife I'd do something with her. Guess I'll have to sneak some peaks at ESPN.
We played well. Well enough to lose a close one. We have a decent team in the best conference... which spells ending the season in the bottom half of the conference.... perhaps the bottom quarter.

I think a good question to put out there is, will this Texas team make the Big Dance?

I think this team is good enough to make the 2nd weekend if they got the right matchup. Or, they could be NIT-bound if they hit a slump. I liked Weaver's tenacity on Shead last night.

I caught most the 2nd half and OT. Houston definitely got away with an offensive push-off near the end of the game when it was tied. If the refs would have called that one, we may have pulled it off but they didn't.

I thought they played soft and hesitant in the first half. They played got after it and played very hard in the second half. Great effort, just came up short against a very good team. A play here or there and the Horns win.

Right now 9 big 12 teams are predicted to make the tournament so staying the middle of the pack would get the job done. Texas is #40 in NET right now, actually improved after last night's loss. Lot's of opportunities to improve the resume remaining on the schedule and most remaining losses won't hurt us too much. If we win half our remaining games we should be set for the tournament but with a seed in the double digits.

The next two games will be telling. At 25 TCU and home against 12 Iowa St after that I see four possible wins in the final eight games. I figure 19-12 at the end of the season.

Will that make the dance?

19-12 in the Big 12 with a few really good wins probably gets you in.
